We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be part of the loyalty back-end team of Grubhub with missions to lead the team to tackle engineering challenges.
The Impact You Will Make

  • The candidate will be part of the loyalty back-end team of Grubhub with missions to lead the team to tackle engineering challenges.
  • Write performant code and ensure the overall code quality output from the team.
  • Ability to identify performance issues in a large-scale application that impacts our customers and provide solutions that align with product directions.
  • Know how to troubleshoot multi-service production issues and can lead a cross functional team effort to debug them.
  • Address any securities or vulnerabilities and lead the team to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adoption of good security practices for our services and systems within the organization.
  • Working with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into manageable tasks.
  • Ensure high quality of code delivered into our production environment with rigorous code review and testing.
  • Advocate the team to identify and address technical debts and introduce opportunities to automation when appropriate.
  • Have a high sense of ownership for the systems or services that the team manages to allow its highest stability possible.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across teams, stakeholders and leadership and bring team collaboration to the highest efficient level as possible.
  • Mentor other team members and help the team grow.


What You Bring to the Table

  • Minimum degree required: Preferably BS or MS in Computer Science or Mathematics.
  • 5+ years of experience in building back-end applications and have had exposure to working with microservice architectures.
  • Good understanding of algorithms, data structures.
  • Experience working with Java or Scala programming (or any functional programming languages before).
  • Experience working with distributed systems with high scalability and availability.
  • Experience designing, building and load testing large scale systems.
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment that contains multiple projects and requires cross-team collaboration.
  • Nice to have experience working with any e-commerce platform before.
  • Possess clear verbal communication and concise technical writing skills to leverage technical documentation and system architecture materials for the organization.


NYC Salary Range: $215,500 - $269,500
The Base Pay component of our Total Rewards package is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: job responsibilities, location, experience and, education/certifications. In addition to the pay component, this role may be eligible for equity and benefits as part of the Total Rewards package. The Total Rewards package will be determined at the time a contingent offer is made.
