About The Opportunity
On the Grubhub Commerce Platform engineering team, we are responsible for building & maintaining stable, secure, and extensible services to facilitate the critical order taking path for our customers. In this role, you will drive the technical direction of the Payments Platform, supporting vaulting and the transactional lifecycle for all orders at Grubhub. You will build a platform that supports extension along with coordinating and implementing changes across services and teams all while ensuring visibility into the system health.
The Impact You Will Make

• You'll work with Grubhub's Payments Platform team to oversee and architect the platform to meet the critical payment functions for supporting customer order taking
• You'll interface with industry leading 3rd party payment service providers
• You'll evaluate tools, technologies, frameworks, and vendors for the platform along with other senior team members
• You'll help to create projects and shape the backlog of features, long term architecture, and tech debt, suggesting areas for improvement and enhancement
• You'll actively work with other teams across Grubhub collaborating on how the Payments platform integrates with their systems
• You'll mentor other engineers including development and career progression coaching across the organization
• You'll actively contribute to the organizational standards of software architecture, best practices, and technologies.

What You Bring to the Table

• Bachelor's Degree in a science, programming or engineering related field
• 7+ years experience building highly-scalable applications
• Experience mentoring junior engineers
• Experience coordinating solutions across multiple teams
• Experience with Java or other object-oriented languages
• Experience architecting, designing, and developing testable, fault tolerant, and performant software
• AWS experience, or similar cloud based offerings
• Automated testing experience applicable for services (junit/testing, mockito + jmeter/ gatling.io)
• Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms)
• Building observability as part of the application
• Distributed database experience with Cassandra or similar NoSQL database experience preferred
• CI / CD tools experience like Gradle, Jenkins, or similar technologies
• Ability to work and communicate within and across teams and to communicate technical solutions to non-technical people.
• Interest in working for a fast paced, product oriented tech company

The base salary range for this position is below:
Illinois: $196,000-$294,000
Grubhub uses geographic specific salary structures, which means the salary offered may vary depending on where the job is located. The final salary offer will take into account various factors, such as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
