About the Role:

Scale and Challenge - Build a complex mobile app that is used by millions of customers globally, handling millions of transactions every month, while delivering quickly in high quality.

We are seeking a Staff Engineer who will join the New Initiatives team.

You Will:

  • Technical Leadership: use your depth and breadth of experience to lead complex, long-term, cross-team engineering efforts. In collaboration with other functional and engineering leaders, you will help create and evolve a technical strategy for new initiatives at Remitly
  • New Product Development: Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other partners to conceptualize and design new features and products that enhance our B2C customer experience. Guide the innovation process and ensure understanding of our goals.
  • Architecture & Design: Architect complex distributed systems, ensuring they are efficient, maintainable, and scalable. Evaluate and select appropriate tools, and frameworks to achieve team goals, by building both client and server side applications.
  • Engineering Excellence: Lead by example, writing high-quality code, and providing code reviews to maintain the highest standards of software craftsmanship within the team. Promote best practices and improve software development processes.
  • Be a Cultural Leader: Be a role model in upholding Remitly's cultural values and use them as a framework to mentor other engineers across the company to achieve their full potential. You will help set and hire against a high-engineering talent bar for the team.

You Have:

  • 8+ years of overall software development experience including leading development of reliable, available and scalable distributed systems in production environments
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a technical leader on complex engineering projects with multiple stakeholders and working in partnership with Product, Design and Data.
  • Experience driving and building long term technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience with multiple programming languages such as TypeScript, Go, Python, or Java. While having a deep understanding of concepts and design patterns such as DDD and TDD.
  • End to end experience on client-server applications, while taking into account user experience, performance and scalability. This includes understanding of both frontend and backend technologies.
  • Great online and offline communication skills, working in a multicultural environment.
  • Team player who is eager to work in a fast-paced and results-driven environment and solve complex problems.
  • A proactive person with a keen eye for details, who constantly wants to improve the system and grow
  • Enthusiastic about building consumer-facing products with great UX and UI.
  • Proved experience in building of modern distributed architecture, working with cloud services, message brokers and different database systems
  • Work well in ambiguous environments
