Essential Job Duties

Are you passionate about driving initiatives with a high-performing team and delivering payroll solutions that delight customers? We're looking for an experienced Sr. Technical Program Manager to lead complex payroll initiatives. You'll own program planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs. In this role, you'll collaborate with partners across BambooHR to release great features and shape the future of payroll technology. You will:

  • Champion the needs of payroll professionals by ensuring their requirements are integrated into strategic program initiatives, enhancing overall customer satisfaction and aligning with organizational goals.
  • Drive the expansion and optimization of BambooHR's payroll infrastructure and processes, supporting initiatives that focus on scalability, efficiency, and reliability to support the company's growing customer base.
  • Oversee the coordination and resolution of critical customer-facing issues, working closely with cross-functional teams such as support and engineering to minimize disruptions and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define program scope, goals, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives while fostering a collaborative environment, encouraging cross-functional teamwork, knowledge sharing, and effective communication.
  • Develop detailed program plans, including schedules, resource allocation, budget estimates, and risk assessments for payroll and/or payments product initiatives.
  • Identify and manage initiative dependencies, critical path, and potential bottlenecks and risks, developing contingency plans and providing timely resolutions to maintain initiative momentum.
  • Collect, analyze, and track metrics and factors impacting developer productivity and satisfaction 
  • Collaborate across engineering to enhance software development processes.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Payroll teams and across other departments

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • 8+ years of proven experience in program management, with a track record of successfully managing multiple technical initiatives simultaneously. 
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex payroll and/or payments product initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by payroll professionals, with a demonstrated ability to champion and foster a customer-centric culture within the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, including federal, state, and local tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payment processing procedures.
  • Experience ensuring payroll products meet regulatory requirements and industry best practices for data security and privacy.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through influence and strategic alignment to business OKRs
  • Proficiency in engineering methodologies, tools, and software (e.g., Agile, Scrum, JIRA, Wrike).
  • Experience in driving and coaching teams in advancing software development processes and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent executive-level communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey initiative status, updates, and risks to key stakeholders and leadership.
