Job Summary:
The Sr. Specialist I, Payroll Specialist, will be responsible for managing and processing payroll for Canadian Solar employees across north America regions in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of payroll systems, taxation, benefits administration, and compliance with applicable laws. This position is integral to maintaining the accuracy and timeliness of payroll while ensuring the highest level of service to employees.

Key Responsibilities:
- Payroll Administration:
- Conduct analysis of payroll data to ensure processing accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Engage in continuous improvement of payroll processes to optimize operational efficiency.
- Resolve payroll processing discrepancies and errors promptly and accurately.
- Manage employee data integrity to maintain a reliable and accurate payroll database.
- Identify opportunities for growth and process improvement within the payroll function, fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
- Administer and facilitate audits by providing accurate and timely records and reports.
- Taxation & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws, including payroll tax reporting and withholding for federal, state, and local taxes.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of government remittances (e.g., W-2, W-3 forms) and other required filings in accordance with IRS regulations.
- Maintain compliance with tax regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Address audits or inquiries from government agencies related to payroll.
- Benefits Administration Support:
- Collaborate with the HR benefits team to administer and maintain employee benefit plans, including health, dental, and retirement benefits.
- Resolve any payroll-related issues impacting employee benefits.
- Reporting & Reconciliation:
- Develop and generate ad-hoc reports to support payroll audit processes and improve efficiency.
- Perform financial reconciliation related to payroll, garnishments, and tax liabilities.
- Employee Inquiries & Support:
- Provide customer-focused support for payroll inquiries, ensuring timely resolution and effective conflict management.
- Manage employee database for compensation, timekeeping, and HCM system access, ensuring accurate records and smooth onboarding.
- Drive process improvements and promote a paperless environment to enhance payroll operations and support for manufacturing supervisors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred.
- 3+ years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a senior payroll or specialist role.
- Strong understanding of U.S. payroll and taxation laws (federal, state, and local)..
- Proficiency in payroll software systems (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Workday) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex payroll issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or equivalent is preferred.
