About the Team and the Role
We are seeking an experienced senior Responsible AI Risk and Compliance Specialist to operationalize AI risk assessment processes across eBay’s diverse product ecosystem. Reporting directly to the RAI R&D Lead, you will proactively evaluate potential harms, ensure adherence to global AI regulations (such as the EU AI Act and NIST frameworks), and collaborate with cross-functional teams to secure responsible AI deployments. This role is critical in crafting eBay’s global commitment to safe, transparent, responsible, and ethical AI, ensuring our technologies serve diverse communities equitably and sustainably!
What You Will Accomplish

Operationalize AI Risk Assessments: Implement and improve risk frameworks, conduct risk reviews, and develop checklists, templates, and workflows for AI risk evaluation.

Compliance & Policy Execution: Monitor and translate global AI regulations into actionable guidelines, enforce policies, and track compliance metrics.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product, engineering, legal, and compliance teams to integrate Responsible AI (RAI) into development cycles and advise on risk mitigation.

AI Risk Evaluations & Monitoring: Conduct bias audits, transparency checks, and content moderation reviews; implement post-launch monitoring and scenario analyses.

Process Improvement & Accountability: Identify risks, propose improvements, and define KPIs to measure the effectiveness of RAI initiatives.

Documentation & Communication: Maintain clear records of RAI protocols, compliance activities, and assessment methodologies; present findings to leadership and teams.
What you will bring:

Experience & Education: 6+ years in risk management, compliance, AI governance, or related fields; Master’s required or equivalent experience, PhD preferred.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with AI regulations/frameworks (EU AI Act, NIST RMF).

AI Risk & Compliance Expertise: Proven track record in operationalizing AI risk assessments, safety controls, and compliance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong ability to manage multiple partners (e.g., legal, privacy, engineering, compliance) and competing priorities.

Policy & Ethics Focus: Candidates with policy or ethics backgrounds and AI safety experience are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Skills: PhD with 3+ years of industry experience, strong communication, experience in ML/AI pipelines, risk audits, and familiarity with LLMs / generative AI.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$190,400 - $254,200
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
