Role Summary
MetLife is seeking a Sr. Principal Engineer to support the growing focus on speed and discipline to deliver on the New Frontier Strategy and deliver highly impactful and engaging digital experiences for our customers, which will generate strong and enduring relationships aligned with the MetLife brand. As a member of US Digital leadership team, the role will be responsible for an end to end management and delivery of CRM and IVA capabilities leveraging new AI solutions . By integrating these technologies, we aim to provide a better customer and agent experience, ensuring more efficient and personalized interactions.
This role will be a newly created leadership position combining strategic oversight with hands-on technical leadership to modernize our technology platforms ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our business. The role requires experience in architect solution, the ability to actively participate in implementation while leading the technical team, drive technology and talent transformations for the Call Center Technology teams in US Tech.
He/she will design, develop, deliver and support the critical tech platforms of US Tech Digital Functions along with the delivery team. He/she will be expected to be hands on and be able to produce design documents and code. He/she will also be responsible for enabling the development teams by providing training, co-development, consultation, and reference implementations. The role will closely work with business stakeholders, product managers and engineering teams to deliver high quality, scalable and secure solutions.
Key Responsibilities

  • As the senior technical leader for assigned product/s, lead the technology and engineering vision and work with the rest of the engineering team to drive for outcomes.
  • As a member of US Digital Leadership, collaborate, own and drive technology initiatives that progress the overall engineering foundation along people, process, and tech dimensions.
  • Drive architecture selection, software design, execution, and operations at the solution level, enabling the business to operationalize the day-to-day functions of the Application/Platform.
  • Identify appropriate technology stacks in accordance with Enterprise standards and incorporate them into sound technical designs.
  • Oversee the efforts of team members in terms of writing, testing, deploying, and maintaining high quality code.
  • Interview and select talent with contemporary Technology skills. Identify evolving needs for additional talent and establish a process for recruitment to keep pace with increasing investment levels.
  • Design and implement robust CI/CD solutions to enable Agile SDLC within a DevOps context with a focus on scalability and increased pace of delivery.
  • Partner with technology partners in the enterprise to deliver the engineering outcomes.
  • Identifies and implements operating efficiency solutions for a complex product portfolio or solution.
  • Influence business with emerging technology trends and capabilities aligned to the solution portfolio.
  • Mentor and inspire engineers by leading by example in areas such as problem solving, estimation, tools & methodologies, and best practices.
  • Institute and drive forums that help with multiplication of talent and skills.
  • Drive significant technology initiatives end to end and across multiple layers of technology.
  • Drive design and implementation of durable and software solutions that will solve critical customer problems.
  • Recommend development best practices for application development.
  • Passionate for continuous learning, experimenting, and applying cutting edge technology and software paradigms.
  • Actively stay abreast of mobile/SaaS/PaaS trends and standards, recommend best practices and share learning.
  • Pursue and resolve complex or unchartered technical problems and share key learnings.
  • Provide technical leadership and be a role model to software engineers pursuing technical career path in engineering.


Position Requirements
1. BS/MS in Computer Science or related area, or equivalent work experience
2. 10+ years of experience developing systems/software for large scale technology operations
3. 8+ years of experience designing complex distributed systems, management products or business applications
4. Strong technical background with hands-on system architecture experience
5. Proficiency in software engineering principles and engineering at scale
6. Ability to build, deliver and operate complex, cloud-based systems
7. Proficiency in at least one of the following languages - Java, C#, Python or equivalent
8. Proficiency in salesforce and experience with Telephony products
9. Experience with structured and unstructured data and databases
10. Skilled in software development lifecycle processes. Experience with SCRUM, Agile and iterative approaches a plus
11. Able to operate at highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high level technical design to detailed technical design to implementation
12. Synthesize achievable solutions from diverse inputs, alternative sources (build / buy / partner) and complex data
13. Prior working experience in financial services and/or cloud computing domain highly desired
14. Track record of successful digital transformation initiatives
15. Partnership with multiple stakeholders across different countries to deliver software products
