Baxter Healthcare is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Principal Engineer to join our team in Braine L'Alleud. This role is essential for driving the development and sustaining activities of our advanced surgery portfolio, with a specific focus on adhesions reduction solutions.

In this role, you will take on the responsibilities of the Product Development Owner (PDO) and Product Risk Management Owner (PRMO), ensuring the successful development and maintenance of our medical device portfolio.

What you'll do :

  • Expertise in Polymer Science and Material Evaluation: You will possess a deep knowledge of polymer and polymeric composites, with the ability to evaluate material properties and conduct thorough root cause analyses in the event of product failures. Additionally, proficiency in material change impact assessments is critical to ensure the integrity and performance of our medical devices throughout their lifecycle.
  • Project Management and Testing: The role involves driving materials and verification & validation (V&V) tests across multiple global, cross-functional projects. This includes developing and delivering comprehensive materials and mechanical testing protocols, test cases, and reports. Additionally, you will run change controls using Baxter’s in-house quality systems to ensure compliance and maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Technical Leadership and Communication: You will be responsible for organizing and presenting technical work to global project teams in a clear and well-structured manner. They will demonstrate their expertise and integrate inputs from others to identify and resolve critical issues effectively. Additionally, the role involves mentoring or leading junior team members in areas of expertise, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvement: You will perform fixing and problem-solving efforts related to the material aspects of products, with a focus on enhancing field performance and manufacturing processes. Additionally, they will develop pioneering industry expertise and drive continuous improvements by staying updated with the latest relevant technologies, ensuring that our medical devices remain at the forefront of innovation and quality.
  • Design History File (DHF) and Risk Management: You will have ownership of key elements within the Design History File (DHF) and Risk Management File, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining detailed traceability throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Independent Leadership and Resource Management: You will work independently with teams or lead project teams, defining the scope of work for project-based initiatives and handling resources effectively to ensure timely and successful project completion.

What you'll bring :

  • Education:  PhD or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Polymer Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Over 10 years of experience in the medical device industry .Confirmed ability to work in matrix environments, deliver results in fast-paced, global teams, and lead sophisticated projects, particularly Product Design and Material Change Controls.
  • Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of medical device development, lifecycle management, and relevant regulations. Proficiency in Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Skills: Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, WebEx, Teams) and familiarity with engineering tools (e.g., CAD). Excellent stakeholder management and project management experience.
  • Attributes: Flexibility to shift between projects, ability to manage junior engineers, and identify/address quality or compliance concerns promptly.
