This position is responsible for applying test engineering knowledge to the day to day functional management of a team related to the development and implementation of test engineering technologies or processes toward projects.  The projects could include New Product Development, Sustaining, Productivity, and Advanced Development. 

This position is responsible for the planning of resources, project planning and technical integrity of test engineering in this functional area. The manager will also plan and track these projects to ensure they are completed on time with quality. This position will ensure that test engineering execution is performed in accordance with the test engineering’s community of practice, tools, methodologies, and processes.

This position is responsible for the direct supervision of Test Engineers in multiple locations.  Additional job responsibilities include assisting with staffing, scheduling, as well as coordinating and planning various projects. This position will be responsible for planning and tracking a financial budget.  This position requires frequent communication and collaboration with Line of Business engineering directors, production, marketing, sourcing and other engineering departments. Additionally, this position is required to maintain external relationships with recruiters, suppliers, partners, and others as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day to day management of on time, on budget and quality functional project execution for a multiple teams in a functional area or business unit
  • Responsible for the functional plans, including resource effort, schedule estimate and cost, for new and active projects for multiple teams in a functional area or business unit
  • Responsible for 18 month project forecasting for multiple teams in one functional area or business unit.  Accountable for direct reports project time accounting
  • Responsible for the functional test approach and technical feasibility for multiple projects in one functional area or business unit, with input from key technical personnel
  • Ensure functional process compliance and contributes to defining the process.  Responsible for meeting and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) for functional group
  • Lead a continuous improvement initiative within functional area or business unit. May lead a functional or business area community of practice, a group of staff in similar roles that drives best practices, peer reviews, and common processes to ensure quality work product
  • Contribute to the future strategy of the functional area or business unit. Execute 1-3 year advanced technology roadmap projects
  • Responsible for annual expense and capital budget planning and tracking for multiple teams in one function or business unit
  • Monitor and create training plans for multiple teams that improves the core competencies of the functional area or business area
  • Technically reviews and approves the functional deliverables and engineering change notices (ECNs) or Change Approval Board (CAB) tickets for all direct reports
  • Attend Design Reviews for projects supported by your team. Participate in design review committee as an alternate as needed
  • Build key cross functional relationships with other functional areas
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
  • Protect Chamberlain Group’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or similar engineering discipline, with cross functional engineering experience, and a minimum of 15 years of job-related experience and 5 years of experience leading a team of engineers or technical staff; An additional 4 years of job related experience can substitute for the bachelor's degree; An advanced degree in directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of job related experience; Six Sigma Green Belt certification strongly preferred; or commitment to obtain certification within two (2) years of date of hire or promotion

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to create functional schedules and accurately estimate task completion time;
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to make timely decisions;
  •  Ability to delegate tasks and appropriately apply situational management;
  • Ability to solve complex problems, recognizes gaps in process, develops and recommends new techniques to support innovative solutions;
  • Ability to train a technical staff in functional area on functional subjects, process and tools

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field; Six Sigma Black Belt certification strongly preferred; Scrum master certification
  • Ability to speak English, Spanish and/or Mandarin

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to run a Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Value Analysis Value Engineering (VA/VE) event; In depth knowledge of Waterfall and Agile development processes
