Job Summary
This position requires relying on a strong background in machine learning development and evaluation to assess a broad range of AI initiatives for alignment with HCSC AI governance best practices with minimal direction from leadership. This individual will refine requirements for building, deploying, and monitoring AI from internal and external sources to align to and enhance HCSC best practices for building responsible AI. The individual will also work with project teams submitting to the AI governance process to refine their submissions and ensure projects meet requirements. This individual will represent the perspective of the data science team on cross-functional teams and contribute to consequential decisions.
Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR Actuarial credential; OR Master’s degree and 3 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR Ph.D. in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR 9 years experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field.

- Proficiency in at least four of the following six areas: 1) data analysis and relational-style query languages; 2) machine learning and/or statistical modeling; 3) data visualization; 4) a high-level programming language; 5) distributed computing; 6) understanding of healthcare.
Job Description:
- Use knowledge of health status and outcomes data and model building and evaluation procedures for machine learning, predictive modeling, and generative AI to review materials submitted to the AI Governance process from internal and external sources for alignment with HCSC AI Governance technical standards
- Design statistical methodologies to evaluate predictive model performance for fairness and bias Create visualizations to depict and support AI Governance processes.
- Identify updates to AI policies from external agencies, how these updates align to current HCSC best practices on technical strategic questions, and how HCSC data science best practices need to shift to accommodate new regulations
- Intake evaluation requests from internal cross-functional partners and design enhancements to current HCSC best practices for building AI solutions
- Identify process requirements and assist in development and deployment of tooling to support the AI Governance process, including contributing to development of internal software packages
- Communicate and interact effectively with cross-functional partners, project teams, and senior leadership engaging in the AI Governance process
- Represent AI Governance in meetings internal and external to HCSC
- Take a proactive approach to learning, identifying team knowledge gaps, sharing knowledge, and continuous process improvement to advance the team’s productivity
- Assume some project leadership responsibilities. Work with management & business stakeholders to set and adhere to a project plan. Contribute to multiple projects in parallel
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field, or bachelor's degree with significant healthcare experience.

Base Pay Range$88,700.00 - $160,200.00
