Responsible for delivering exceptional design and delivery for clients on time and on budget. Collaborates on the development of design throughout design development and construction drawings. Responsibilities:

  • Works with senior designer(s) and project team on conceptual designs, presentations, design development and implementation documents
  • Leads and may provide guidance to team on project design for assigned project, developing creative design concepts and expanding on concepts of others
  • Collaborates to establish the vision and sets project goals with the senior designer, project team and client
  • Develops and applies computational design standards and practices
  • Develops design solutions based on industry standard construction techniques and engineering principals to support design effort and develop client relationships
  • Collaborates on the development of and may modify and/or review graphic presentations, 3D rendering and implementation documents to incorporate the design intent
  • Organizes and delivers project design presentations to client user group or public forum
  • Coordinates with consultants, contractors, fabricators, furniture dealers and regulatory agencies to meet overall project objectives; collaborates on project details with consulting design or engineering firms
  • Assists in resolving complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions to maintain goals and objectives of projects
  • Works with senior designer or PM to manage client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination
  • Proposes material for and coordinates layouts of interiors
  • Prepares schematic land and site planning models and drawings with graphic content to convey ideas, methodologies and approaches for marketing and proposal requests
  • Works closely with design team and assists to deliver various projects on time and within budget
  • Compiles data and performs design computations
  • Performs and coordinates product research; assists senior designers with materials and systems evaluation to make proper selections
  • Assists project teams as needed in all stages of design, documentation and fabrication
  • Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
  • Promotes newly developed workflows and toolsets across HKS studios
  • Manages conflict effectively and encourages a healthy team environment
  • Seeks leadership opportunities by providing direction and feedback to team members, peers, and collaborating with team leaders
  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team
  • Develops and tests new toolsets for modeling technique, software platform interoperability and environmental simulation/analysis
  • Supports and may lead the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, budgets and schedules
  • Travel will be required.

Qualifications:

  • Accredited advanced degree in Architecture or related field
  • Architectural registration strongly preferred
  • Typically 8+ years of experience
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred
  • Advanced knowledge in 3D modeling in a variety of software platforms such as Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, CATIA, etc. preferred
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign graphic software preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
  • Knowledge of the following programming languages:  Processing, C#, Typescript, and Python
  • Experience with graduate or post-graduate advanced simulation or fabrication methods preferred
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy
  • Understanding the processes of design, fabrication and construction of complex projects and their impact on the built environment
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of materials, construction techniques and building codes
  • Strong presentation skills and graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to work iteratively across a variety of project typologies and among multiple BIM platforms
  • Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationship
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality

Base Salary Range: $120k - 200k annually – New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago locations only
