Reporting to the OST and Athletics Director, the DREAMBuilders Athletics Coach will be responsible for coordinating after school physical activity and coordinating club sports during DREAM’s middle school after-school program. The Athletics Coach will support the development of athletic skills and provide opportunities for social emotional learning by leading club sports teams during DREAM’s after-school program, including planning and leading practices, coaching during scrimmages, and leading leadership and social emotional learning activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead a group of up to 18-20 youth in daily after-school sports practices and occasional scrimmages;
- Submit practice plans that include a focus on both skill development and social emotional learning;
- Facilitate or co-facilitate lessons to help youth build their social and emotional skills;
- Supervise youth during travel to scrimmages and/or practices;
- Communicate with school-day and programs staff about athletes’ progress, with a focus on their teamwork;
- Support Program leadership and other Athletics Coaches with coordinating scrimmages;
- Model and encourage positive participation in all activities, with a focus on team building;
- Model professionalism through consistent attendance, timeliness, and preparation;
- Supervise and manage youth during all activities using positive youth development strategies;
- Participate in professional development and tactical training in addition to formal feedback and coaching.
Qualifications
- Strong facilitation skills of athletics or recreational programming with youth in grades 6-8;
- Experience teaching youth foundational physical activity and athletic skills;
- NSCA-CPT certification preferred;
- Working towards a Bachelors of Science in Recreation or Recreational Sports Management, preferred;
- Exhibits high energy, warmth, enthusiasm and patience in working with youth;
- Demonstrated interest in assisting students develop motor skills through athletics;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment;
- Excellent time-management skills: a self-starter who demonstrates initiative and follow-through;
- Experience with behavior management systems, including positive youth development, preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting;
- A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the belief that all students can succeed, and a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
Commitment
- Start: March 17, 2025
- End: June 30, 2025 (exact end date may be earlier depending on the team's progress in the league)
- Schedule: Monday-Thursday: 4-6pm

- DREAM is hiring coaches for our East Harlem and Mott Haven Middle Schools.
- East Harlem: 1991 2nd Avenue, New York, NY
- Practices take place at the school, or in surrounding areas in East Harlem or the South Bronx.
Compensation
- DREAM offers competitive compensation. The rate for this position is $20 per hour.
