Job Description
At Eataly, beverage is equally as important as food! Eataly’s restaurants contain a vast selection of premium and unique Italian wines and drinks at all price points. The Sommelier shares wine and beverage knowledge with Eataly guests and makes recommendations.
Reports to the Restaurant General Manager and the Beverage Manager.
- Shares knowledge of and appreciation for wine with all Eataly guests, answering questions and offering recommendations
- Provides excellent and responsible beverage service to all guests
- Monitors wine inventory, maintains cellar pars, and ensures that wines of critical age are sold
- Assists Service team with aiding guests in wine selection and pairings
- Directs regular and consistent training on wine and beverage pairings for servers, managers and chefs
- Ensures service staff are familiar with proper beverage service
- Updates the restaurant POS system to be in line with menu pricing
- Keeps cellar stocked and organized for weekly beverage service
- Partners with Back of House to identify wine-friendly ingredients
- Returns corked and spoiled wines to suppliers for refunds
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
Qualifications
- 3+ years of sommelier experience preferred
- Knowledge of Italian wines strongly preferred
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $19-22 an hour + tips (pooled).
Job Requirements
- Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule sometimes including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squatting
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to use a wine key and a hand truck
