The AI Forge is responsible for accelerating AI’s impact on Proofpoint’s leading suite of people-centric cybersecurity products by partnering with product teams across the company and conducting applied research. Recently deployed projects span a wide range of techniques (agents, LLMs, deep and classical learning) and data types (textual, image, and structured data).

Role Overview
As a Software Engineering Intern on the AI Forge team, you will apply software engineering best practices to business-critical cybersecurity and infosec challenges. You will collaborate closely on back-end AI/ML solutions with experienced Software Engineers and Data Scientists. You will develop ML/AI applications and wire them up (transform data, connect data sources to consumers, invoke machine learning models, and process results); and build AI-centric tools and libraries.
Who You Are
You are a motivated and technically adept student with a strong software engineering foundation, with interest in AI/ML. You are eager to apply your skills to innovative real-world projects in the human-centric cybersecurity space.
Key Responsibilities:

Write production-grade Python code.

Collaborate with mentors and colleagues to develop domain knowledge and implement solutions.

Write clean, tested code and receive feedback on your submitted PRs.

Author internal Python packages and deploy application code to the cloud.

Present your results to technical & non-technical company stakeholders.
Requirements:

Currently enrolled in a U.S.-based university or college (undergrad or master's), graduating in spring 2026.

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.

Comfortable writing scripts and/or code (Python preferred).

Basic familiarity with Git.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
-
Interest in learning about data science infrastructure and workflows, and/or human-centric cybersecurity.
Experience with any of the following is a plus, but not required:

Cloud services (AWS preferred)

Docker and Kubernetes

Linux ecosystem (shell scripting, Python deployment on Linux)

AI and machine learning concepts
Candidate Profile:
You have the ability and interest in working full-time (a maximum of 38 hours/week) this summer and part-time (a maximum of 20 hours/week) for 9 months afterward. You have the ability and interest in working within our hybrid work model, combining onsite work with remote flexibility. You are currently a student pursuing a degree and maintaining a strong academic record. This internship is scheduled to begin in Summer 2025 and continue through 2026 (1-year program).
