General Description:
We are looking for a software engineer to help us develop the future of quantum information technologies. Scientists and engineers at HRL use our quantum software development kit every day to operate, understand, and advance our quantum devices, which includes state-of-the-art developments featured in top scientific journals. As a software engineer on the quantum device software team, you will be responsible for developing software for the automation and characterization of our devices.
Essential Duties:
Develop software for the autonomous execution of complex sequences of experiments, measurements, and calibrations
Develop software for characterization and benchmarking of quantum devices
Build rich visualizations to exhibit device characteristics and performance
Work closely with experimental physicists to ensure software enables required laboratory capabilities
Work closely with data engineers to define how to organize and store quantum device data
Required Skills:
5+ years relevant software engineering experience
Proficiency in Python
Experience with leading open source Python packages such as Pandas, NumPy, Plotly, etc.
Experience with one or more relational database system
Experience with software engineering practices such as version control and continuous integration
Solid understanding of core computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and computer architectures
Experience working with physical hardware
Experience with a scientific discipline
Required Education:
Expected experience of BA/BS + 6 years of industry experience, MS + 4 years of industry experience, or doctoral degree
Candidates with different experience levels may be considered for other positions.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship required
Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance as required
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $132,765 - $165,983 + bonus + benefits.
