About the role:
Become a key contributor to the Messaging Platform team, a foundational system that delivers millions of messages to customers across 70 countries in 14 languages. As a Software Development Engineer, you’ll design and implement tools that enable seamless messaging about critical transfer updates, new features, and marketing campaigns. Working across channels like email, push notifications, and in-app messages, you'll support marketing for Remitly’s core products (multiple mobile apps). Also, you’ll take on the challenge of integrating and consolidating systems, building scalable event-driven architectures, and designing the next generation of our messaging platform—a system that reflects Remitly’s growth and delivers value to a global customer base.
This role is a hybrid mode, with our office located in the heart of Kraków, conveniently next to the main train station.
You will:
- Design, implement, and maintain tools that deliver billions of messages annually.
- Support integrations and consolidations of messaging platforms to create a unified and scalable solution.
- Build scalable event-driven architectures to support marketing platforms and lifecycle messaging.
- Collaborate with Product and Marketing teams to deliver impactful features that resonate with a global customer base.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth through knowledge sharing and guidance.
- Write clear technical documentation, including specs and architecture designs, for complex systems.
- Debug and optimize systems to ensure reliability and efficiency at scale.
- Stay updated on industry trends and bring innovative ideas to improve the messaging platform.
- Reporting to the Engineering Manager based in Krakow.
You have:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Expertise in at least one programming language: Golang, Java, JavaScript or Python and openness to learn more.
- Experience with lifecycle marketing platforms like Braze, Mailchimp, or others (highly desirable).
- Experience with event-driven architectures
- Expertise in designing and implementing distributed systems.
- Platform-oriented mindset with a focus on scalability and long-term solutions.
- Excellent cross platform debugging skills.
- Technical documentation and specification writing skills.
- Experience working with global-scale systems or supporting customers across multiple regions.
