POSITION SUMMARY
The Refined Product Bulk Accounting department is part of the Controller’s organization, with responsibilities that include accounting for purchases and sales of products, performing inventory reconciliations and supporting various front office and operating areas. The successful candidate will need to be a self-starting and driven individual, with strong customer service skills and the ability to work in a team environment. The successful candidate will help coordinate the Refined Product Bulk Accounting team’s daily activities and responsibilities. The position is expected to assist accountants and business partners in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to day-to-day activities. The successful candidates will work with a variety of stakeholders that could include MPC customers/vendors, traders and schedulers, operations personnel, yield accounting personnel and various other organizations as they complete their roles and responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects, compiles, analyzes, and verifies financial and other data to ensure the integrity of accounting records. Investigates and resolves discrepancies.
- Prepares analysis and schedules in support of financial statements and related disclosures.
- Creates and records journal entries and other transactions, maintains general ledger, and reconciles accounts.
- Serves as a resource or lead to less experienced accountants. May train, mentor, assist in providing direction or review the work of newer accountants/interns.
- Ensures the integrity of financial transactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Supports accounting processes through managing and prioritizing business requirements, system enhancements, and/or accounting standards.
- Ensures standard business processes are followed across multiple accounting functions.
- Ensures successful completion of internal and external audits.
- Ensures proper execution of controls and performance, documentation, and retention in accordance with accounting policy.
- Displays advanced ability to utilize systems/tools, which may include, but not limited to, Excel, SAP, Right Angle, etc.
- May provide accounting advice to leadership to assist them in managing their responsibilities.
- May document, update, and maintain internal procedures or work on or even lead special projects.
- Identifies and implements costs and efficiency gaps and recommends ways to reduce costs or improve processes and standards.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Accounting and advanced degrees preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Oil and gas industry experience preferred.
