Summary:

We are currently seeking a Senior Content Writer and Editor, SEO to join our Content team in Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto.

What your team does:

The SEO Content Team at Clio is responsible for driving the majority of organic traffic to the website. From blog posts, to hub resources, to optimizations of our product and feature pages, this team has a major impact on Clio’s main web property, and a major impact on the business.

Who you are:

You are an experienced content marketer and a talented writer with a deep understanding of SEO best practices, as well as an understanding of the marketing funnel. You have your finger on the pulse of the SEO industry and the latest trends—especially as today’s SEO landscape continues to change rapidly with the advent of AI. You know how to develop content marketing plans and craft copy that answers the questions that our audience is asking Google, and ensures those answers appear at the very top of the SERPs.

You prioritize impact over perfection, but you know what good writing looks like and have outstanding editing and proofreading skills that let you capture our style and tone. You know how to create content that, while keyword-optimized, sounds natural and authoritative. Your expertise and ability goes beyond blogs and resources, and you’re adept at perfecting product and feature pages to optimize them for SEO.

You’re a pro at keyword research, knowing how to find the best keywords to target for traffic growth or optimization of existing pages, and you’re equally comfortable tweaking product and feature page copy, or crafting comprehensive articles geared to be the best page on the internet for a given query.

You know how to listen and interpret stakeholder needs, possess superior organizational skills, and have the innate ability to juggle multiple tasks.

You have a curious mind, and want to see how your day-to-day tasks result in improvements in search rankings, traffic, MQLs delivered and revenue growth.

What you’ll work on:

  • Writing impactful content in diverse forms to drive business goals—mainly focused blog, website, and resources content, but also video scripts, podcast scripts, web pages, landing pages, and if needed, emails, articles, one-pagers, sales enablement materials, and more;

  • Editing and proofreading the work of your peers, both your fellow content marketers, and your peers in the broader marketing department, especially according to SEO best practices;

  • Leading large-scale editorial projects that position the Clio brand and team as market leaders—including SEO bets like new directories, new types of content, or video support;

  • Championing content quality, SEO best practices, and general editorial best practices, proactively disseminating learnings across the broader team;

  • Mentoring your fellow writers to help them advance both their writing and SEO skills through editorial reviews;

  • Researching keywords, evolving search best practices, and trending topics within the legal and legal technology spheres to help direct content and growth marketing efforts for a variety of segments, regions, and mediums;

  • Evolving editorial and voice and tone standards across our thought leadership and SEO content;

  • Reporting on content-related KPIs, including traffic, rankings, and leads, using qualitative and quantitative research to inform your content decisions, and adjusting plans according to past performance;

  • Coordinating with freelance writers and ensuring effective use of our freelance budget (for example, for large scale editorial projects);

  • Collaborating with others both within Marketing and in other departments to put together plans that prioritize business goals and needs and execute efficiently (for example, an editorial project in support of a product launch);

  • Empowering everyone at Clio to write their own great content by contributing to training, learning resources, and other support opportunities;

  • Executing with speed and agility, adjusting plans on the fly and executing on tasks in a timely manner as projects and tasks come in quickly;

  • Exercising critical thinking by executing on projects with limited context, identifying problems and solutions independently and seeing them through to resolution with little oversight.

What you may have:

  • Minimum of 7 years writing and editing in support of content needs for a brand, ideally in an SEO context;

  • Experience writing SEO content and structuring language across all areas of a website to ensure top SERP visibility for each page while responding to audience and business needs;

  • Strong ability to identify top SEO thought leadership opportunities and make recommendations on where to focus, prioritizing by balancing traffic potential and lead generation factors;

  • Able  to independently manage complex, large-scale editorial projects in a calm, effective manner;

  • A strong ability to context switch, collaborate, create new plans as priorities change, and execute in a calm and agile manner;

  • Background working with cross-functional teams including SEM teams, UX designers, product marketers, product managers, and other marketing channel owners;

  • Ability to analyze data and make recommendations using SEO tools such as SEMRush or Brightedge, and data management/reporting tools such as Dreamdata, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console;

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly when it comes to keeping cross-functional, distributed teams up-to-date on SEO editorial projects, as well as championing the importance of SEO writing best practices within an organization;

  • Superhuman attention to detail, and no fear of deadlines. You will be the first and last line of defence against typograph1cal errorz.

Serious bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with B2B tech/SaaS

  • Experience with SEM

  • Experience related to the legal industry

  • A portfolio of SEO-related content work that showcases how your strategy, writing, and editing led to improvements in traffic, search rankings, leads delivered, and/or backlinks collected.
