THE OPPORTUNITY
As a Senior Visual Designer at BCI, you will report directly to the BCI Studio Manager and play an integral role in developing, overseeing, and maintaining our visual brand. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure consistency across all materials, products, and visual elements while aligning with our corporate communication strategies and enhancing BCI's reputation.

Additionally, you will be responsible for recruiting and managing future co-op and contractor designers. This will involve providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to help them grow professionally and align with BCI's branding objectives.
WHAT YOU BRING

Degree or diploma in graphic design, information design, or related disciplines

Six years experience as an information or graphic designer, with a minimum of three years experience as an in-house designer

Experience as a visual brand strategist, developing and designing brand elements, defining standards, developing tactical plans, and delivering on visual brand strategy

Subject matter expertise in visual communication strategy best practices

Demonstrated ability to plan and direct photo and video shoots

Experience collaborating with outside agencies and suppliers

Strong leadership skills in providing creative direction, inspiration, and mentorship of other designers

Demonstrated expertise in portraying complex financial concepts and data, including data visualization best practices

Expertise in typography and layout design for print and digital mediums; advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel and Illustrator chart design

Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; excellent project management and organizational skills while being detail oriented

Financial sector experience is considered an asset

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Advisor and Subject Matter Expert on BCI’s Visual Brand

Is a brand strategist for BCI’s evolving approach to the visual brand: leads the development, design, and execution of the visual brand program that will guide the design of corporate, client, and internal communication materials. Develops and leads the rollout of the tactical plan

Leads strategic creative solutions for corporate projects providing solutions that align with communication strategies and best practices for portraying financial information and data in an accessible and engaging manner

Contributes to the strategic direction of the Studio program; advises manager on design trends, tools, and best practices
People Management and Leadership

Recruits and manages co-op and contractor designers: provides orientation of BCI, BCI’s visual brand strategy, tools, and processes; manages their workload; provides creative direction; regular check-ins; reviews work and constructive feedback; manages budget; approves timesheets

Establishes a collaborative and creative work environment for designers, fostering open communication and teamwork to generate innovative ideas and solutions

Provides guidance, mentorship, and feedback to the Studio team, helping them grow professionally and enhance their skills in line with BCI’s branding objectives
Develop BCI Collateral Materials that Promote BCI’s Brand and Reputation

Conceives, develops, and designs solutions that meet the objectives of BCI's communication strategies and align with BCI’s visual brand and data visualization standards

Contributes to the management and administration of the Studio digital asset management system

Plans, co-ordinates, creatively directs photoshoots of BCI employees to build the image repository for BCI communication materials, working with both internal and external photographers

Provides colleagues with design counsel; advises on the use and application of BCI stationery and templates

Brings forward operational suggestions for system implementation that will streamline work more efficiently
Project Management & Creative Direction

Acts as a strategic advisor and creative lead on all aspects of large-scale corporate visual brand projects

Partners with cross-functional teams; develops comprehensive creative briefs and workback schedules

Defines scope, requests and reviews estimates; orients agency and contractors to visual brand; develops storyboards and inspiration mood boards; provides creative direction; tracks budget; develops collateral communication materials to support communication strategy; approves work products; adheres to project scope, milestones, and budget

Coordinates and manages design projects, ensuring that tasks are delegated effectively, resources are allocated appropriately, and deadlines are met

Identifies knowledge gaps in the team, recommends training or other solutions
Corporate Responsibilities

Develops and maintains strong relationships with BCI’s internal stakeholders and third-party vendors

Work from our downtown Victoria office; relocation support is available if needed.
SALARY RANGE
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.
The annualized base salary range for this role is CAD $100,000 to $120,000.
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
