Duties & Responsibilities:
Viavi, Germantown, MD USA, Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) Business Unit, has a need for a Senior Test Engineer with the experience and drive to make a difference. This position will directly support new product introduction and perform secondary support for PNT and contract manufacturing sites. Prior experience in the field of PNT test equipment is preferred.
The purpose of this position is to ensure high quality and reliable test methods are designed into automated and manual test systems in manufacturing and service for Positioning, Navigation, and Timing equipment produced by the PNT Business unit. This position will partner with R&D during new product introduction and continue to support products throughout their lifecycle.
Primary Role and Responsibilities
- This role will closely partner and be co-located with R&D at the Viavi Germantown office
- New Product Introduction (NPI) for VIAVI PNT products
- Provide DFT direction to R&D at the concept stage of new product development
- Test development and ongoing continuous improvement for the test solutions of the PNT product portfolio
- Design, develop, and influence the various automated production systems required to implement the product test strategy
- Devise the overall manufacturing and service and configuration strategy for new products and optimize manufacturing & service calibration and test.
- Partner with R&D and Manufacturing Engineering to develop contract manufacturing ready and reliable test systems, jigs & fixturing
- Provide DFT direction to R&D from concept stage and throughout new product development
- Optimize calibration and test processes for coverage, capability, and test stand capacity
- Detailed project planning to ensure all test solutions and processes are developed, documented, debugged, deployed, and validated in time for new product pilot run
- Effective use of Gage R&R and measure system evaluation tools in NPI to ensure stable test system are deployed in manufacturing and service.
- Installation and validation of production systems at the final production facility at contract manufacturers in the USA and Asia
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:
Qualifications for Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years experience developing automated functional test processes for electronic assemblies
- IDE programming experience in test automation using LabWindows CVI or NI TestStand
- Program language experience with emphasis on ANSI C and familiarity with languages such as Python, C++
- SQL database programming experience for test record and data management
- Knowledge of analog, digital, and RF circuits
- General knowledge of statistical process control concepts and use of tools for analysis and reporting
- Knowledge of industry standard test technologies and methods using test equipment such as Network Analyzers, Signal (Spectrum) Analyzers, Measurement Receivers, Signal Generators, Audio Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and DMMs
- Written documentation experience such as test specifications, procedures, installation instructions, interconnects, assembly drawings, preventive maintenance
- Project planning experience. - Communicates effectively with the team, interdepartmental stakeholders, and contract manufacturers
- Engages actively with the team and manager reporting status while working on objectives - Demonstrates leadership skills and self-motivation
- Ability to travel internationally up to 15% of the time to contract manufacturing sites
