ROLE SUMMARY
This is a Senior Technical Accounting role reporting to the Cigna Healthcare Accounting Policy Director. This role supports the delivery of efficient and effective GAAP and STAT accounting guidance and disclosure implementation through thoughtful research and clear documentation of new products, transactions and accounting pronouncements.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the research, evaluation and dissemination of information regarding emerging and final GAAP, SEC and statutory technical accounting and disclosure requirements
- Prepare thorough, clear and concise memos and other communications documenting the relevant authoritative GAAP and statutory guidance, rationale and conclusion for accounting and reporting issues and disclosure requirements. Ensure documentation is communicated and distributed to impacted individuals; provide support to ensure stakeholder understanding.
- Under the Accounting Director’s guidance, evaluate recently issued GAAP guidance, new products/arrangements or processes, or complex areas; optimize application of GAAP and statutory accounting for new products and business initiatives
- Understand projects, evaluate accounting and disclosure impacts, and communicate impacts to stakeholders
- Partner with accounting and other teams to develop sustainable post-implementation processes for new accounting requirements within required timeframe to meet reporting deadlines
- Establish and maintain key business partner relationships (internal and external)
- Partner with Statutory Accounting CoE to ensure an assessment of the statutory accounting is completed for new arrangements and is appropriately documented and communicated
- Participate in the education of the Cigna Healthcare team and others about new GAAP accounting standards and impact to financial processes, disclosures and results
- Execute and document quarterly SOX controls
- Foster development of greater technical accounting knowledge and expertise within the accounting department; educate on accounting guidance and encourage independent research.
- Support divisional reporting through review of external financial filings and presentations as well as results analysis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. in Accounting or Finance, CPA and/or MBA preferred
- 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance
- Experience in technical accounting preferred

- Ability to comprehend broad business issues and work collaboratively with others
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present complex information in meetings

- Self-starter and quick learner with strong organizational skills
- Operate with the highest level of integrity
