Senior Tax Specialist
Job Description
JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Tax Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing all domestic and international tax-related matters within the organization, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
The role includes:

Preparation, review, and submission of tax filings, management of tax audits and disputes.
-
Providing tax advice on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate reorganizations.
-
Provide tax advice on cross border transactions, including preparation, review and submission of CFC returns, preparation of transfer pricing documentation, preparation of withholding taxes and foreign tax credit schedules.

Other tax related areas, including capital gains tax, dividends tax, VAT, PAYE and Customs, while offering strategic input on tax planning and risk management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Income Tax
-
Manage the preparation, review and submission of tax packs, provisional tax returns (IRP6) and income tax returns (ITR14), e-filing tax payments and other related tax documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
Capital Gains Tax
-
Prepare detailed calculations on capital transactions, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with CGT regulations.
Mergers and acquisitions, reorganisations

Provide analysis and tax advice on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate reorganizations to optimize tax efficiency.
Dividends Tax
-
Ensure correct calculation and timely submission of dividends tax returns.
VAT, PAYE and Customs
-
On an ad hoc basis, prepare, review and submission of VAT and PAYE returns.

Provide tax advice on internal and SARS queries, including verifications, requests for information, audits and disputes.

Provide oversight and tax advice on Customs duties, ensuring compliance with South African Customs Laws.
Tax Dispute Resolution

Handle tax disputes with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), including objections, appeals, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) proceedings.

Act as the liaison between SARS and the organization, ensuring favourable resolutions.

Prepare, submit, and manage objections and appeals.
Tax Advisory & Opinion Writing

Provide technical tax opinions on complex tax matters, including but not limited to corporate transactions, reorganizations.

Conduct research and provide tax advice to business units and executive management on various tax-related issues.
Ad hoc requests/ Special Assignments:

Execute special tax reviews or ad hoc tax projects.

Assist in the performance of special reviews requested by management.

Prepare clear and concise reports for ad hoc projects/assignments, and further present the reports to management.
Quality:

Execute/assist in completion of all tax work in accordance with quality standards.

Ensure tax business is conducted in accordance with quality standards and code of ethics.

Prepare clear and concise reports for tax and ad hoc engagements performed.
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Manage relationships with Group and Operational Management, and act as a trusted advisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor of Commerce degree (in Accounting or Taxation)

Masters in Taxation will be advantageous

Minimum 7 years’ experience in a tax-related role
