Senior System Reinsurance Data Analyst

Starr Companies is seeking a Senior Systems Data Analyst with reinsurance or insurance data expertise in both Premium and Claims, Treaty and Facultative contracts. Knowledge of Reinsurance Accounting data a plus.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years' experience in data analysis and have worked on a prior data migration.  This position will be an addition to the IT area that supports Starr’s Reinsurance applications.  The analyst will be part of a team of developers / analysts responsible for the design and implementation of a new reinsurance data integration platform and data repository that will support Starr’s Global reinsurance transformation initiative.   The analyst will work in collaboration with other data analysts, developers, and key business stakeholders both internal and external to ensure system design best practices and data quality.

Essential Functions:

Data Management & Project Support

• Use SQL and Excel to identify, analyze and resolve data discrepancies and data quality issues
• Perform data profiling and analysis on reinsurance and enterprise data warehouses
• Document and map ETL transformations to Onboard or enhance data feeds

• Have ability to see downstream implications resulting from change in scope and/or requirements.
• Ensure data standards are reused and enforced across data platforms.
• Maintain system protocols by writing and updating procedures.
• Work closely with internal and external business partners.
• Meet deadlines.

Testing and Project Coordination

• Develop test cases and Perform testing
• Ensure issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner.
• Monitor project progress by tracking activity and resolving problems.
• Effectively manage daily tasks to meet key deliverables within the software development lifecycle.
• Use SQL or similar tools to query databases for testing and analysis.

Effective Communication and Team Collaboration

• Understand complex interdependencies
• Ability to capture meeting notes as needed, create and maintain issue logs
• Able to identify and escalate issues appropriately and provide timely progress updates.
• Review designs by other team members and give constructive feedback in meetings or written form when required.
• Follow departmental standard operating procedures, workflow processes and work in a transparent manner.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (7+ years data experience), Masters a plus
• Knowledge of Reinsurance and Insurance STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Quick Learner with an excellent memory
• Strong Excel skills – speed and proficiency
• Demonstrated expertise with SQL
• Strong analytical skills, especially data analysis
• Understand data flows, Starr Schema and Relational architecture
• Experienced with ETL transformations & data mapping
• Project Management skills a plus
• Intellectual curiosity and a desire to seek new challenges
• Ability to work autonomously
