We are currently seeking a highly experienced Senior Solution Architect to join our team and lead the modernization of our legacy applications while leveraging the full potential of CI/CD and AWS native functionalities. As a Senior Solution Architect, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our development team through the modernization of our legacy systems. You will utilize your extensive software development experience to design and implement robust, scalable solutions that align with our business goals. Your expertise in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and your knowledge of CI/CD practices will be essential in driving our projects forward. You will also mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in software development, with a strong background in solution architecture.

  • Proven experience in modernizing legacy applications and implementing cloud-based solutions, particularly on AWS.

  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools (e.g., Github actions).

  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, C++, Python, or Typescript.

  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

  • Strong writing and IT architecture modelling capabilities (contextual,  conceptual and logical) to author technical solution documents that align to existing policies, standards and roadmaps.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Proven technical leadership skills with a servant leadership mindset.  Has the ability to coach, influence and facilitate the creation and delivery of the technical vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architectural design and modernization of mission critical legacy applications, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.

  • Establish, document, communicate and expand the technical vision and roadmap for the legacy payment transaction and settlement product and the plan to achieve it, in alignment to business outcomes and Suncor’s architecture policies, standards, roadmaps.

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline development processes and enhance deployment efficiency.

  • Leverage AWS native services to build scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.

  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices (e.g. Single Responsibility Principle, SOLID, etc).

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve our solutions and processes.

  • Identify, manage and mitigate technical risks.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.

Location and other Key Details: 

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.

  • This is an office based role, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday

  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work.
