The Customer Technology Team is a strategic technology partner to the downstream parts of our business including retail, wholesale, ecommerce, customer experience, repairs, and more to create the best Patagonia user experience through innovative, effective customer technology solutions.

The Solution Architect is a critical role identifying, designing, and implementing technology solutions that align with the company’s strategic objectives. Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, you will dive into our most critical business areas and translate challenges and opportunities into effective and efficient technology enabled solutions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Execute a comprehensive strategy for cross-functional technology-enabled solutions, ensuring alignment with Patagonia business objectives & purpose.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, sustainable, and innovative technological solutions across various channels including retail, wholesale, ecommerce, and more.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across business units, project and product managers, software engineers, and other technical teams to identify and address technical challenges.
  • Facilitate effective communication and foster strong relationships to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Create architecture diagrams, specifications, requirements, and user guides to guide the implementation of solutions.
  • Rapidly prototype, demonstrate, and test ideas to validate and refine product requirements and technical specifications before moving to production.
  • Translate business requirements into SMART and validated product requirements then technical specifications in an agile manner with key stakeholders.
  • Mentor a diverse team of internal and third-party partners, developers, tech leads, solutions architects, and analysts, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Understand the customer and business objectives deeply to inform technical direction.
  • Provide technical guidance on system design, scalability, performance, security, and data integrity.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to sustainability and responsible business practices.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate stakeholders on implemented solutions and provide ongoing support.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of implemented solutions and identify opportunities for improvement.

Experience You Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in information technology, with significant experience in solution architecture and technical leadership.
  • BS degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Product Design
  • Technical proficiency with software architecture, system design, and integration.
  • Strong architecture experience with shown proficiency in broad array of SaaS and enterprise systems for retail industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience driving projects executed by geographically diverse teams.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to influence across all levels of an organization without formal authority and work with technical and non-technical lean teams in a dynamic environment with both emerging and established technology solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills (experience building, evaluating, and clearly presenting complex business models is critical).
  • Strategy development and management experience.
  • Experience managing a complex, diverse, and dynamic workload.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Certifications in Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and Azure Microservices (or equivalent)
  • Experience with ERP and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Experience with JavaScript, C#, and other relevant programming languages.
  • Knowledge of Azure services and cloud-based development or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with API design and integration.
  • Understanding of microservice architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies. Use of Microsoft DevOps (or similar) preferred.
  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture practices and frameworks preferred.
  • Experience with workflow and journey mapping and diagramming in collaborative tools like Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence) for managing requirements and project documentation.

Hiring range: $170,000 - $190,000

At Patagonia, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to 3rd party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget. Note the full pay range for this role ranges from: $146,000 - $220,000 USD Annual. The Hiring Range reflects where in the range we intend to hire for this role.
