Senior Software Engineer

About the Team
The Rapid7 Data Platform is a unified, integrated platform powered by Rapid7's product suite providing our customers enhanced visibility into their attack surface, operational efficiency, risk management, and decision-making capabilities.
Our teams are responsible for consolidating data from all Rapid7 products, transforming it for optimised retrieval, and ensuring high-performance and seamless access to our customers. This role is crucial to the platform's success as it focuses on building a highly scalable and reliable data mesh that powers cross-product use cases.
We work with technologies including Java, Webflux, FoundationDb, Trino and Glue.
About the Role
In this role you will be focussed on developing solutions which support the consolidation of data in a data lakehouse and enable cross-product use cases via a scalable query engine. While we expect you to come in and hit the ground running you will have the opportunity to further broaden your skills surrounded by a team of incredibly smart and experienced Engineers, while also mentoring your junior colleagues.
In this role, you will:

• Build, maintain, and release our well architected services by writing correct and clean code consistently and following best practices and conventions. You will understand and make well-reasoned design decisions and tradeoffs
• Take a lead role in the design and planning of upcoming features, our engineers are first class stakeholders in all parts of the development process
• Work cross functionally with internal product tech teams, product managers etc to help deliver a shared Data Platform

The skills you'll bring include:

• 4-6 years experience in software development using Java(including Java 21+) or other equivalent JVM programming languages
• Hands-on experience with reactive programming, preferably WebFlux
• Experience with common relation database technologies, such Postgres
• In depth practical experience using terraform infrastructure as code.
• Cloud experience is required, AWS is a plus
• Experience working with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, ECS, etc) is required
• Experience mentoring junior engineers
• SQL Query optimization experience
• Experience working with multi-model distributed NoSQL databases is a plus e.g. FoundationDb
• Collaborative team player who has the ability to partner with others and drive toward solutions
• Strong creative problem solving skills
• Passionate about delighting customers, puts the customer needs at the forefront of all decision making
