Overview:
At Northwestern Mutual, the Planning Solutions team is on a mission to transform how Financial Advisors connect with clients through innovative technology. As part of the Factfinder team, you'll be at the heart of these efforts, building a critical application that sets the tone for an advisor's relationship with their clients.
Factfinder is used during live, first-call conversations to gather key client data, helping advisors create tailored financial recommendations in real time. It's a tool that not only drives efficiency but plays a crucial role in shaping a client's decision to trust Northwestern Mutual and their advisor. When Factfinder performs well, it ensures advisors can deliver a seamless and impactful experience during these pivotal moments.

As a Senior Engineer, you'll implement critical features and help set technical direction. You'll partner with stakeholders across the organization to solve challenging problems, mentor team members, and drive the success of Factfinder. You're Excited About This Opportunity Because You Will...

• Assist in defining the technical strategy for Factfinder
• Take full ownership and autonomy of building features end-to-end
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, high-impact solutions
• Mentor and coach engineers across the team to foster technical growth
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and availability to meet business needs
• Inform stakeholders of tradeoff options to achieve business outcomes

We're Excited About You Because You Have...

• 4+ years of professional experience in software development
• A proven track record of delivering high-quality software systems
• Deep expertise in 1 or more programming languages and frameworks (Preferably Javascript/Typescript, React, Node, Java, Kotlin)
• Strong architectural understanding of systems
• Experience building both visually-rich frontend presentations and backend APIs
• Experience with Unit, Regression, and Integration testing
• Experience with version control using Git
• A leadership mindset, with the ability to influence technical decisions and mentor others
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves:

• Advanced knowledge of testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and performance monitoring
• Exposure to analyzing and improving efficiency, scalability, and stability of various systems
• Experience working with databases (e.g. SQL, Postgres, Mongo)
• Experience building cloud-native applications in AWS or other cloud providers

Pay Range - Start:
$102,060.00
Pay Range - End:
$189,540.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
