About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer II, you will be a key part of our Agile squad and an advocate for best-practice coding. You will build solutions that will help support Elsevier’s goals of helping researchers and healthcare professionals advance science and improve health outcomes for the benefit of society through the on-time delivery of high-quality software products.
Qualifications:
5+ years of Software Engineering experience
BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
Responsibilities
- Designing, developing, and delivering software across our Enterprise Product Hub estate using a variety of technologies and tooling
- Working closely with the Product team to design and develop the applications features and data integrations supported by a Python / microservice driven architecture
- Ensuring well tested, documented code is written by encouraging best practices and applying software engineering principles
- Collaborating with cross-functional technical teams to deliver successful, high-profile, business-critical projects in a fast-moving product-centric environment
- Mentoring and guiding junior team members to develop their skills in software development and best practice
- Contributing to achieving continuous improvement within the standards and processes for the ongoing development
Requirements:
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a proven software engineering background and experience in a senior role
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Python programming language and PySpark with a focus on data frames and data transformations
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL)
- Display experience with Cloud Computing Platforms, preferably AWS
- Display experience with Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery build pipelines using Jenkins and GIT in an Agile environment
- Display strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information
- Thrive on working collaboratively and enjoy supporting, mentoring, and motivating your fellow team members
Accountabilities:
- Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements
- Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components
- Work closely with other development team members to understand product requirements and translate them into software designs
- Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews through your understanding of software development methodologies
- Agile development – including the use of Jira, Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery
