THE ROLE & THE TEAM
As a Senior Software Engineer (all genders) in the transport teams of the logistics technology department you will contribute to developing systems to support the delivery of millions of items to our customers. You will be part of one of our teams in Berlin where we are seeking support to create, run and continuously improve a robust transport management system to enable users to plan, schedule, execute and settle up transports based on previous forecasts and planning and depending on contractual and pricing information provided by last mile carriers and freight forwarders. You will be having a huge impact on the performance and cost effectiveness of the entire logistics department at Zalando logistics but it doesn’t end here - together with your team your work will also enable you to continuously grow and learn as a software engineer.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

Designing, developing, migrating, deploying, operating & improving important software solutions that will improve and affect the performance and cost effectiveness of the entire transport management process at Zalando logistics

With your expertise help plan our sprints and roadmaps by breaking down new and existing feature requests into manageable stories and tasks. Implement and fully test new features before deploying them to production using a continuous delivery model of deployment

Communicating with other teams and stakeholders to align on dates and priorities of new features to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations

Adding value by leveraging current trends in software design, architecture and web services. Helping the team to improve by providing input on the full range of tasks involved in the successful delivery and operation of software systems
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF

You have profound experience and mastery in professional software development using a JVM based language (preferably Java/Kotlin), and software development patterns. Experience with at least one framework (e.g. SpringBoot / Ktor) as well as a good understanding of SQL and high performance database architectures.

You have experience in designing distributed systems, microservices & cloud architectures/platforms (preferably AWS). Frontend knowledge like i.e. TypeScript, JavaScript as well as modern libraries & frameworks like i.e. React would be beneficial but not required

You have a strong sense of reliability, of responsibility, and ownership. Entrepreneurial & analytical thinking add to your excellent communication skills and willingness to share knowledge

You have experience in all parts of the software development life-cycle, from understanding the requirements to software development, build, test, deployment and operations
