The Opportunity:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for taking on a leading role in Kargo’s Fabrik Player product line and will be integral in mentoring and guiding others. We are building sustainable, reusable, and scalable codebases in an agile environment and are true believers of doing it right the first time. We want our engineers to be self-starters, eager learners, who will grow with our company

You should be comfortable working alongside Engineering, Product, and Design teams to develop clean maintainable code. Ultimately, you will help shape and define our creative and collaborative processes and will follow a best practice approach to producing high-performing products

What You'll Do:

  • Leadership and Strategy:
    • Lead strategic projects and fine tune our tooling and processes to help us become an industry leader in the video discovery and monetization space
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Increase our ability to develop and adjust to market demands for our video player and content management platform
    • Help us build the capabilities to move from manual experiments to deploying multiple experiments at a time
    • Improve our developer experience through tooling such as Grunt, Webpack, or other modern front-end build tools
  • Project Management Expertise:
    • Lead medium to large-sized projects that will involve coordination and delegation of work with external teams
    • Improve our planning and predictability of our projects through processes and our project management tools (Monday.com and Jira)
    • Prioritize our project roadmaps based on our goals and feedback from our customers and stakeholders

Who You Are:

  • Has at least 2 items in the How You’ll Stand Out section
  • Has led a project that included 2+ engineers and took a span of 3+ months to complete
    • Balanced technical debt and product features a plus
  • Reduces the complexity of event-driven and asynchronous nature of web-based applications
  • Able to manage data in SQL and no-SQL databases
    • In-depth knowledge of DB optimization a plus
  • Experience with at least 2 front-end web frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, etc
  • Experience with setting up javascript-based tooling such as Webpack, Grunt
  • At least 6+ years of experience working in the Software industry or a related field
  • 4+ years of TypeScript, JavaScript (JS), HTML, and CSS
  • 3+ years in unit, integration, and e2e testing

How You’ll Stand Out:

  • Technical/Project Leadership
    • Led a large refactor/re-architecture that took at least 2 engineers 6 months or 4 engineers 3 months
    • Created your own work project that took at least 6 months with at least 2+ engineers to complete
    • Led projects that improved team cycle times, reduced bug rates, or improved DORA metrics that took at least 1 engineer and 3 months to complete
      • Examples: process changes, CI/CD pipelines, observability, metrics monitoring/alerting, etc
  • High-Scaled Applications
    • Created or scaled a system that handled at least 75k req/day (1 req/s), 300 reqs/min (2 req/s), or 100 req/s
    • Reduced p90 latency of a request below 1 second (bonus points for going below 200ms)
  • Data operations, analysis, or reporting
    • Created or scaled a data pipeline to process megabytes of data an hour
    • Created or expanded the capabilities of a feature toggle, A/B testing, canary deployment system
  • Video / Video Playing
    • Created or expanded the capabilities of a web-based player
    • Created or scaled a content processing pipeline
  • AdTech
    • Deep knowledge in the video or ad tech stack:
      • Header bidder with Prebid.js and Google Ad Manager and concepts like SSP, Ad Server, DSP, privacy frameworks (TCP, CCPA, GPP)
      • Ad tech standards like VAST, VMAP, VPAID, MOAT, GPP, GDPR, TCF, USP
      • Familiarity with video streaming protocols and standards like HLS and DASH
