Senior Software Engineer, Food and Beverage Web

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. The Role
The Web organization delivers compelling experiences via browser to millions of businesses using Square today, and millions more considering it. Running a business and selling online can be challenging, which is why we're dedicated to simplifying that process for our sellers, giving them more time to focus on what matters most.
From the cozy corner café to the growing multi-location restaurant chain, Square empowers Food and Beverage sellers with the tools they need to streamline operations, manage staff, and serve their customers. We are focused on providing food businesses to thrive whether they are serving in-house, offering online orders, or expanding to delivery platforms. We offer intuitive, cross-platform software solutions-seamlessly integrated with our hardware and backed by reliable services-so sellers can focus on what they do best.
You Will

• Oversee the entire lifecycle of feature development, including planning, design, implementation, automated testing, and rollout
• Lead the development of complex software systems and migrations (often crossing organizational boundaries)
• Participate in reviewing engineering design documents to advocate for the right technical architectural tradeoffs
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to design, build, and iterate on frontend interfaces that enhance the global Square onboarding experience
• Advocate for process changes within the team/organization in a critical, but thoughtful and empathetic way
• Mentor engineers across the organization, evolving and instilling a culture of high quality and high velocity work
• Hold yourself, and your teammates accountable to the standards of engineering and ethics that enables Square to safely move billions of dollars in payments and allow our customers to trust us with their sensitive data

You Have

• 10+ years of industry experience building for the Web, with a BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Proven record of successfully delivering large features (spanning ~1+ year) from start to finish with strong collaboration, communication, and ownership
• 5+ years experience building with React at scale
• A sense of customer empathy and desire to influence the product direction
• Understanding and curiosity in creating well thought out, scalable, low-latency, global systems

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
