Job Description
The Role
A Senior Software Engineer is an experienced member of our SEEK Group Engineering teams. A Senior Software Engineer is a fully autonomous professional, responsible for improving the technical alignment, health and engineering practices within a team. You will develop software within product delivery/systems/platform teams, contributing to engineering quality, coaching and mentoring entry-level Software Engineers, and demonstrate passion for your craft through user centric, reliable and scalable solutions
The Team
The Engagement Team at SEEK is dedicated to facilitating direct communication with candidates and serving as the voice of SEEK through engaging and helpful emails and push notifications. The cross-functional team is distributed across ANZ and KL and is divided into two squads: Job Discovery and Connect and Close the Loop The team includes engineers, business analysts, product managers, user experience designers, and digital analysts. The team builds and maintains the code for emails and push notifications sent to candidates and hirers, with a focus on backend development and some frontend work. They tackle the challenge of sending thousands of notifications and emails daily, collaborating with many teams across SEEK. The tech stack includes Node.js with TypeScript, CDK, event-driven design, mjml-react, AWS, DynamoDB, Lambda, Elastic Container Service, React, and Express API.
Daily life in the team involves code reviews, stand-ups, pairing sessions, self-teaching opportunities, and of course coding. They follow a 2-week Agile cycle with fortnightly planning, retros, and tech sharing sessions, and reserve a flow day to allow focus.
You will work with roles, including, but not limited to:
- Graduate Software Engineers, Associate Software Engineers, Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineers, Staff Engineers and Lead Engineers
- Engineering Managers
- Product Managers
- Data Engineers & Platform Engineers of multiple levels
- Business Analysts / Iteration Managers of multiple levels
- UX, Visual Designers, Data Analysts and Digital Analysts (SEO)
You could partner with:
- • Other teams/functions at SEEK that include Strategy, Sales & Service, HR, Finance, Go-toMarket, Security, Architecture, AI, Data Services, APAC Practices, Group Applications, Service/Incident Management, Infrastructure and other Engineering Teams in Hirer, Candidate and Platform domains across APAC
Qualifications
Key Accountabilities
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
- Lead engineering efforts to build, test, deploy, and maintain reliable, resilient, and efficient software.
- Enhance platform health, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure alignment with SEEK’s technology strategy, including cloud-first solutions and scalable software.
- Write clean, secure, and well-tested code while strengthening Agile practices, DevOps culture, and team capabilities.
- Foster team well-being, onboard new hires, and mentor team members. Encourage open feedback and diverse perspectives.
- Contribute to communities of practice, continuously seek learning opportunities, and promote regular feedback to drive personal and team growth.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Proficiency in creating and maintaining software using two or more modern programming languages.
- Experienced in designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-first (AWS) applications and working with APIs, logging, and monitoring/alerting tools.
- Skilled in writing secure, well-tested, and readable software using modern patterns, tooling, and CI/CD practices. Strong knowledge of design patterns and data modeling.
- Expertise in modern development practices like Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), and Clean Code principles.
- Experience leading individuals or technical projects in a software engineering team. Proven ability to deliver specific technical, system, or product outcomes within a software delivery context.
- Proven ability to mentor and help team members grow professionally.
- Actively contributes to professional communities of practice, both internally and externally.
