Job Description:

The Battle.net Data Team builds and maintains an extensive Big Data Platform for all of Blizzard Entertainment's games, tools, and operations. As a member of this welcoming and encouraging Data Team, you'll chip into one of the world's largest and most robust data pipelines to collect global information that powers analytics, operations, discovery, and machine learning throughout Blizzard's products and services. From real-time operational awareness to machine learning systems for epic gameplay experiences- Blizzard is striving to be a world leader in Big Data.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help research, implement, and maintain components that glue the data pipeline together and integrate with 3rd party and open-source systems such as Kafka and Elasticsearch as well as Cloud technologies such as Pub/Sub and Dataflow. From building micro-services that support the platform's use cases to crafting highly scalable data pipelines to accomplish streaming/batch workloads – you'll work with a team of engineers to develop and maintain massively scaled systems that handle billions of messages every single day.

This role is anticipated to be either an on-site or hybrid position. The work location for this role is Irvine, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and integrate components of the Data Platform.

  • Research, implement, and maintain data pipeline components.

  • Integrate with third-party and open-source systems such as Kafka and Elasticsearch.

  • Utilize Cloud technologies like Pub/Sub and Dataflow.

  • Build micro-services to support platform use cases.

  • Develop and maintain highly scalable data pipelines for streaming/batch workloads.

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to handle billions of messages daily.

  • Maintain Observability tooling used to operate our games.

  • Contribute to the migration to Azure for cost efficiency and improved security.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Skilled in Java, Scala, or C#.

  • Experience leading or designing major features.

  • Proven debugging skills across the stack in production.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and teamwork abilities.

Bonus:

  • Experience building highly scalable distributed software/services in the cloud.

  • Experience with Elasticsearch.

  • Experience with stream processing frameworks (Flink, Spark, or Apache Beam).

  • Experience working with SRE/DevOps teams to achieve operational excellence.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Cloud Build).

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $101,000.00 - $186,754.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
