About Us:
Parabola is a workflow builder that makes it easy to organize and transform messy data from anywhere—even PDFs, emails, and spreadsheets—so that forward-thinking teams can automate the work they thought would always be manual.
Teams at fast-moving companies like Brooklinen, On Running, and Flexport use Parabola to save hundreds of hours and finally take on the projects that used to feel out of reach. Whether it’s reconciling inventory across multiple 3PLs, auditing invoices, or manually exporting the same report every Monday, Parabola gives teams the power to automate it—all without needing engineering support.
Parabola is backed by OpenView Partners, Matrix Partners, Thrive Capital and more.
About the role:
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on our rapidly growing team, you’ll help build our core platform features, reinforce and evolve our technical foundation, and work with a unique flow-based calculation engine that processes thousands of workflows running millions of logical steps.
What you'll be doing:
-
Working on our core orchestration logic that determines how to efficiently run tens of thousands of workflows at the same time - we recently rebuilt our orchestrator on top of Temporal and we love it!
-
Crafting efficient and elegant solutions to process and transform complex datasets using our flow-based calculation engine.
-
Sharing ownership for tailoring, extending, and monitoring our infrastructure stack.
-
Leading major backend engineering projects from ideation to implementation, deployment, documentation, and ongoing iteration.
-
Optimizing our services for scalability, stability, and observability as our customer base grows and our product becomes more sophisticated.
-
Collaborating with a small-but-mighty group of engineers with a wide array of backgrounds and areas of expertise.
-
Helping our team define processes and practices that will serve us for years of growth and success.
What (we think) you'll need to do it:
-
5+ years of Backend Engineering experience - backgrounds in infrastructure, platform, or reliability teams are all welcome.
-
A proven record of building efficient, performant, and easy to extend systems.
-
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and how they interact with backend services.
-
Experience with Linux systems and Docker containers.
-
You’re not afraid to ask for help, and you’re happy to give it, too.
-
You care about the craft of engineering, and you’re dedicated to making sure your work is stable, secure, and maintainable.
-
You’re an enthusiastic communicator and you like working with a team that provides both mutual support and thoughtful critique.
-
You're excited to join a hybrid team and work out of our NYC or SF office ~3 days a week.
Nice to haves:
-
Experience with Temporal.
-
Experience building AI platforms, or the tooling and systems behind AI products.
-
Experience implementing and managing AWS infrastructure from the ground up and the ability to continuously evolve the stack to improve efficiency, security, and reliability.
-
Familiarity with Kubernetes/Helm (we use Amazon EKS).
-
Experience implementing and deploying infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) tools to manage production cloud environments (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
-
Experience managing CI/CD pipeline for multiple environments.
-
Experience building cloud storage or data modeling products.
-
Proficiency managing developer experience (e.g. code coverage tooling, static analysis tooling, pull request merge queues).
-
Experience working at early stage startups.
-
Experience working with AI/LLMs professionally--either building an AI-powered tool or using AI tools to augment your work/impact

What We Do
Parabola is a visual productivity tool that makes it easy for anyone to automate their manual, repetitive data tasks. We have a library of customizable, prebuilt components specifically designed for ecommerce operations and marketing teams to pull in data, combine and transform it in bulk, and automatically take action.
At Parabola, we're bringing the power of programming to everyone. To be a builder, you don’t have to come from a technical background, or know how to write code. We believe your computer should work for you and that's the truth that Parabola is making a reality.
To help close the the productivity inequality gap, we're starting with knowledge workers (e.g. marketing, sales, operations) and enabling them to increase their productivity leverage and become self-sufficient. Our users consistently describe Parabola as a new superpower they've developed and feel empowered knowing they can solve any problem that comes their way.
