The Sr. SMT Process Engineer is responsible for developing and applying engineering and manufacturing knowledge for the PCB areas for the operation, programming, and maintenance of the following equipment, but not limited to: SMT, Auto-insertion, Selective Soldering Machines, Wave Soldering Machines, Soldering Robots. As well as the design, development, and implementation of assembly fixtures, soldering pallets, stencils, support bases, etc. Must be able to plan priorities, combining technical activities with administrative activities, such as NPI orders, engineering samples, CAPAS/CAR/PAR, NCR tracking, and process improvements.
Make strategic plans to support and increase the knowledge and skills of the support and operational groups. All of the above in a low volume/high mix environment.
Principal Responsibilities:

Optimize processes in the areas of SMT, PCB TH, Auto Insertion, Wave Solder, Selective Soldering, Manual Assemblies, Etc.

Design and implement production methods that positively impact metrics in their areas, such as Safety, Quality, Productivity, Scrap, OEE, OLE, and any other applicable topics

Responsible for SMT/PCB issues and internal/external quality feedback. Troubleshoot root causes of the SMT/PCB process and obtain corrective actions for issues.

Plan, create, and ensure that programs and process documentation for the aforementioned areas of responsibility are completed and updated in time for production.

Ensure that computer systems and the network of the respective equipment are well maintained and in working order. Programs are periodically updated and backed up.

Participate in the discussion on new product development and contribute ideas and feedback in the areas of PCB assembly, automation, and process technology.

Create and update production process documentation, rework, upgrades, etc.

Analyze Gerber Files to understand and analyze PCB designs

Purchase and Stencils Design
-
Programming of surface mount equipment and paste printing

Reading, interpreting and performing thermal profiles in reflow ovens, Wave Solder, Selective Soldering

Participate and contribute in the development of the maintenance plan for the assigned area or process equipment, based on the supplier's manuals, experience and opportunities for improvement.

Coordination and execution of preventive maintenance in a timely manner with the technical support group.

Maintain and update the machine's capacity in a timely manner through engineering benchmarking projects.

May stop any manufacturing process when it does not meet the quality specifications required by the client.

Participate in the definition of spare parts levels necessary to keep the equipment in good operating conditions.

Implementation of engineering changes according to the times established in the engineering change procedure.

Weekly review of the continuous improvement program, completing the applicable improvements and providing feedback to the suggestion generator.

Comply and ensure that the personnel under their charge comply with each of the points considered within the code of conduct (ethics) of Spellman de México, S.A. de C.V.

Comply with the Safety, Health and Environment Policy, following the procedures and instructions applicable to their activities.
Competences / abilities:
-
Graduated from Industrial/Mechanical/Electronic Engineering.
-
5 years of experience in a similar position is preferred.

Strong knowledge on programming Paste Printers (Yamaha preferred)

Strong knowledge on programming Placement machines (Mycronic/ASM preferred)
-
Strong knowledge on development of solder profiles on Relofw, Wave & Selective Solder (Mole Preferred)
-
Knowledge on Geber, CAD, ASCii files is a must
-
Knowledge of electronic components and soldering preferred.

Strong knowledge of IPC-A-610 acceptance criteria

Knowledge of flowcharts (PF) (PFMEA)
-
Knowledge of BOM's and process routes
-
Interpretation of 2D assembly drawings (GD&T).

Knowledge of the ISO 9001 Standard.

Knowledge of the ISO 14001 Standard.

Advanced problem-solving analysis and methodology.
