About Helion
We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.
Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $600 million from investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV).
Now we are working toward Polaris, which will be the first machine to demonstrate electricity from fusion, making this a great time to join Helion! Bring your skills, experiences, and determination to make a difference in the world. Together, we can make a future with unlimited clean electricity from fusion a reality.
What You Will Be Doing:
We are seeking a skilled Senior Semiconductor Technologist to join our team in designing cutting-edge semiconductors for high-performance pulsed power systems for Helion’s fusion generators. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in both the physics and electrical engineering aspects of semiconductor technology, with expertise in high voltage pulsed power switching components. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment to design, test, and implement semiconductor solutions optimized for high reliability and efficiency, with a strong emphasis on rapid development cycles. You will report directly to our Sr. Manager of Electrical Engineering at our Everett, WA office.
You Will:
- Spearhead effort to gather and utilize requirements for switching components, then apply towards design of physical products
- Drive the design and development of novel pulsed power electronics components and systems, focusing on high-efficiency, high-reliability semiconductor solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the integration of electrical, mechanical, and physics-based principles in the development of semiconductor devices
- Lead development cycles, including hands-on prototyping, testing at small scale, and validating performance at large scale, ensuring timely delivery of solutions that maximize performance of our fusion generators
- Conduct performance simulations, testing, and analysis to validate designs, iterating quickly based on test results and using data-backed decisions making to inform next steps
- Stay informed on emerging semiconductor materials, device architectures, and power electronics industry trends
- Document design processes, specifications, test results, and findings to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in power electronics and high voltage semiconductor design
- Strong foundation in semiconductor physics, power electronics, and circuit design principles
- Proven experience with rapid prototyping and development cycles in a high-tech environment
- Background working with semiconductor fabricators to manufacture semiconductor devices
- Proficiency with simulation tools and test equipment for power electronics
