Job Description:
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Publicist role is an opportunity to take ownership of innovative publicity campaigns for both children’s and young adult book authors and illustrators with the goal of driving sales, increasing visibility, and promoting the Scholastic mission. This fast-paced position requires the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and meet tight deadlines. The Publicist will communicate regularly and effectively with authors, members of the press, booksellers, and the Scholastic marketing, editorial, and sales teams. The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful publicity campaigns and excellent written/verbal communication skills. This position will report to the Director of Publicity.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute publicity campaigns for approximately 15 titles/authors per season

Pitch national, regional, and trade industry media contacts for reviews and interviews for print, broadcast, and online

Research media contacts, create press materials, and complete mailings

Plan and arrange travel for multi-city author tours with comprehensive tour schedules

Pitch authors for speaking opportunities at consumer festivals and industry trade shows

Collaborate with marketing colleagues on campaign strategy and tactics

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Familiarity with media databases such as Cision, MuckRack, and Publicity Assistant a plus

Knowledge of children’s books and media preferred
Experience and Education:
Experience: 2-4 years’ experience in book publicity
Education: Bachelor’s degree
