Senior Product Designer, Food & Beverage

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. The Role
You will lead design on our Omnichannel team which focuses on helping restaurants take and manage orders both in-person and online. You will oversee design decisions that directly influence the product and roadmap. Your work will span from core features to experimental projects. We believe in generalists who have a hand in each stage of product development, so Product Designers at Square take projects from sketches to final visual specifications. This will be a role where you will work with other designers, product managers, researchers, and engineers. You'll report to the Design Director for Square for Restaurants.
You Will

• Create and collaborate on the vision for tools that help restaurants manage and fulfill in-person and online orders
• Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists to shape a vision and roadmap that up-levels the quality of the product experience for our customers
• Guide and realize the vision for the product through design explorations, documentation, and presentations
• Influence design practices and team operations within a fully remote team
• Provide feedback and mentorship to other designers, foster a culture of experimentation and creativity, and build connections across teams and disciplines
• Learn from and design with our sellers through research, propose design and product opportunities, promote them across the organization, and own projects from concept through release

You Have

• 8+ years of professional design experience
• You have a portfolio that shows work you were directly responsible for (must include link)
• Experience as a primary contributor to multiple high impact projects
• Promoted design excellence through mentorship, feedback, and knowledge sharing
• Maintained a principled, customer-centric approach throughout each project, using data, insights, and experience to inform decisions
• Experiment with new design tools, methodologies, and approaches to improve the design process and inspire creativity
• Formed ideas and present them to your team to determine strategy and roadmaps
• Asked questions and work with your leadership peers and bring conversations to next steps

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
