The Small Commercial Sr. Product Analyst is responsible for conducting comprehensive analysis on product performance within an assigned geographic region. Sr. Analysts are regularly analyzing profit and growth performance for a given product, providing recommendations on product enhancements, as well as forecasting production trends over a 24 month horizon.
The Sr. Analyst is intimately involved in setting prices, designing product features, adjusting underwriting guidelines, along with direct input into underwriting practices, commission strategies, sales strategies, and other related areas of the business. This role reports to the Product Director within the Small Commercial State Product Management team.
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
Responsibilities:

The State Product Management teams are accountable for achieving / exceeding profit and growth targets in assigned markets

Work alongside the Product Director for the region to develop strategic vision and tactical plan that will profitably expand market share within assigned geography

Learn and execute the core product management levers under the supervision of a Product Manager or Product Director

Work closely with sales, underwriting, actuarial, and other key business partners to develop and execute local market strategies, ensuring alignment and clarity of vision across the organization.

Incorporate company, industry, and competitor information into holistic recommendations

Remain grounded in geography-specific data so that shifts in competitiveness and profitability are well anticipated
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field of study such as Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, Statistics, or Mathematics is highly desired

Ideal candidate will possess P&C commercial lines insurance industry experience evaluating product, pricing, research and/or underwriting of at least 3 years.

Acceptable alternatives to P&C commercial lines insurance industry experience include at least 3 years of experience in: P&C personal lines product, data science, performance analytics, business intelligence, decision science, biostatistics, or other analytical role requiring data and trend analysis for the purpose of driving business decisions

Strong technical skills. Demonstrates skills in Excel including the ability to create, manipulate and formulate spreadsheets. Ability to work with larger data sets and develop analytical insights

Excellent communication skills required - including visualization of quantitative information for non-technical audiences

Must be able to learn on own in addition to formal training in order to contribute rapidly to the team

Experience building and using reports and dashboards with Tableau, or a similar business intelligence platform is a plus

Experience using Python, R, or similar programming language to perform analysis tasks such as: exploratory data analysis (EDA), data cleaning, causal inference, simulation/bootstrapping, modeling, machine learning, or other statistical analysis preferred
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$76,960 - $115,440
