The Senior Paralegal & Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Case Manager position will be in the Law and Compliance Department and will play a key role in assisting the Head of Litigation with litigation related matters. The position will be primarily responsible for responding to subpoenas, record requests, liens, and levies. In addition, this individual will be a Case Manager in the SIU with responsibilities to investigate suspicious activity, recommend remediations, communicate with clients and their financial advisors, and coordinate with Operations and Information Security to recommend and develop additional anti-fraud measures and controls. The paralegal will also be responsible for SIU-related state and federal regulatory filings and to participate in various employee Fraud Risk Management red flag trainings.
This position will report to the Head of Litigation/Director, Special Investigations Unit.
Key Skills and Accountabilities
Litigation Paralegal
- Knowledge of legal principles and practices at a level normally acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent.
- Proficiency in legal terminology and legal and factual research;
- Experience with state insurance department regulatory filings and other types of regulatory submissions
- Experience with litigation support, including issuance of legal hold notices, e-discovery matters, tracking matters for internal and external reporting, and assisting with processing/payment of legal invoices
- Track and report certain annual and ad hoc regulatory filings; maintain associated metrics
- Assist with ad hoc projects, special project work, and various Law and Compliance Department initiatives
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints;
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail;
- Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors;
- Effective interpersonal skills, including communicating in person, by e-mail and by telephone;
Special Investigations Unit (SIU)
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations, including the identification of inconsistencies in documentation, and suspicious activity across multiple media (emails, phone calls, requests for monetary transactions),
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify patterns, and draw logical conclusions
- Ability to create detailed investigative reports documenting findings, evidence, and recommendations for further action.
- Ability to identify trends and patterns of fraud to develop strategies to prevent future fraudulent activity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and/or Paralegal certificate required
- Minimum of 3-4 years of corporate paralegal experience, preferably in the insurance/financial services industry
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), online legal research tools
Work Environment
The position is hybrid in our Zionsville, IN or Waltham, MA, office. We are ideally seeking candidates located in the Waltham metro.
