Position Summary:
The Restructuring Paralegal is a key member of the team supporting the Firm’s Restructuring Practice. This includes working directly with partners and associates to provide restructuring legal assistant services across all aspects of the practice area, with an emphasis on chapter 11 court proceedings. The Restructuring group represents a broad spectrum of clients including debtors, creditors, bondholders, direct lenders, and sponsors in both formal court proceedings and out-of-court restructuring transactions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reviews, organizes and maintains matter-related documents and other materials.
- Assists with all facets of preparing for hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Assists during hearings, depositions, arbitrations, mediations, and trials, as needed.
- Files, prepares and assembles all pleadings, including briefs, affidavits, and exhibits for filing with courts and agencies and for submission to counsel. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring that filings are in a file-ready format as required by the courts.
- Coordinates with external vendors and internal resources.
- Cite checks, shepardizes, proofreads, and assists attorneys with the preparation of legal briefs and memoranda.
- Prepares indexes, tables of contents, and tables of authority.
- Facilitates case management and maintains case calendars.
- Assists with the logistics of preparing for and sending out document productions.
- Retrieves cases and other legal materials from Lexis Advance and Westlaw.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: 5+ years restructuring and/or litigation paralegal experience within a large law firm. Prior experience with restructuring preferred, but not required.
Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of PACER and use of ECF in the Southern District of New York. Proficient in bluebooking. Knowledge of Lexis Advance and Westlaw. Knowledge of MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Attentive to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize tasks. Flexibility to work beyond standard work hours and travel as needed.
The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
New York Salary Range
$110,000—$125,000 USD
