About the team and role
Reporting to the General Manager Enterprise Risk & Resilience, the Senior Operational Resilience Manager will be critical in helping Xero prepare, respond and recover from any disruptive events.
You will lead the coordination and continual improvement of Xero’s Business Continuity Management (BCM) Framework and improve the operational resilience of the business to events that could disrupt our operations and/ or adversely affect our customers, reputation and brand.
You will develop a broad network with Xeros across the entire global business and help protect our business by proactively identifying opportunities to reduce the likelihood of significant incidents occurring whilst at the same time ensuring that should an incident occur, it can be dealt with in a manner to minimise the impact to our business and recovery is expedited.
This role is critical in building trust with all our stakeholders and will be a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to small businesses across the globe by helping Xero be resilient to known and emerging risks.
What you'll do
- Business Continuity Management: This role is responsible for maintaining and enhancing Xero's BCM framework, ensuring best practices and delivering business value. You'll drive ownership of BCM, build relationships with BCP owners, and foster a resilience mindset across Xero. This involves developing tools, maintaining resources, and providing expert guidance on business impact assessments and continuity planning. You'll also improve crisis management processes, ensure documentation compliance (ISO 27001, SOC2), assess third-party risks, and act as a key contact for BCM inquiries. You'll coordinate testing, provide updates to stakeholders, and maintain a strong understanding of Xero's technology systems.
- Risk Management: You will align BCM with Xero's Enterprise Risk Management framework, identifying and mitigating business continuity risks. This includes supporting business functions in risk identification and proactively building resilience. You'll also collaborate with other tech companies to share best practices.
- Incident Management: You will build relationships with incident management teams, improving processes and capturing insights for reporting. Ensure alignment with the BCM framework, including escalation to Emergency and Crisis Management teams.
What you'll bring with you
- Experience working in cloud/tech company
- Strong understanding of key risk management and business continuity management principles and frameworks including risk assessments, Business Impact Assessments, Business Continuity Plans, Disaster Recovery.
- Experience building new and innovative approaches to delivering great risk and business continuity outcomes
- Experience working cross functionally to support and deliver outcomes in complex and fast moving business environments
- Experience communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership
- Experience with driving ownership, action and change
- Experience working in a flexible online environment - online, remote, across time zones, collaborative documents
- Experience writing papers and reports using clear non-technical language for broader consumption

- High engagement across the business with BCM being relevant, impactful and alive
- BCM elements of ISO 27001 certification achieved and maintained
- Continually improving Xero’s ability to proactively identify and managing emerging risks and deal with any disruptive risk events
