Our mobile apps are key to delivering a seamless user experience. To ensure our apps are stable, performant, and reliable, we are seeking a talented Mobile Reliability Engineer to join our team.
As a Mobile Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of our mobile apps built in Kotlin (Android) and Swift (iOS). Your work will focus on identifying and resolving app crashes, optimizing performance, and implementing robust monitoring solutions. You will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth, crash-free experience for our users.
Key Responsibilities
Crash Diagnosis and Resolution
- Monitor tools like Firebase Crashlytics and Sentry to identify and prioritize app crashes.
- Debug crash logs, resolve issues, and deploy fixes across Android and iOS apps.
- Collaborate with mobile developers to test fixes on multiple devices and OS versions.
Performance Optimization
- Analyze app performance metrics (e.g., launch times, memory usage, battery consumption).
- Use tools like Android Profiler and Xcode Instruments to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Optimize API calls, UI rendering, and background tasks to improve app responsiveness.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Implement and maintain monitoring tools to track crash-free sessions, app load times, and other key metrics.
- Define and implement custom performance metrics for critical user journeys.
- Create regular performance and reliability reports for stakeholders.
Proactive Maintenance
- Refactor legacy code contributing to instability or performance degradation.
- Ensure compatibility with new OS updates and hardware releases (e.g., Android 14 or iOS 18).
Reliability Testing
- Conduct stress tests to identify edge cases and potential stability issues.
- Collaborate with QA to enhance test coverage and automation for critical app flows.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with mobile developers, backend engineers, and product teams to address complex issues.
- Communicate findings and updates effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
About You
Required Skills and Experience
Technical Expertise
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin (Android) and Swift (iOS).
- Solid understanding of mobile app architecture, including memory management and threading.
- Experience with RESTful API integration and optimizing network calls.
Performance and Stability
- Hands-on experience with tools like Android Profiler, Xcode Instruments, and similar debugging platforms.
- Proven ability to optimize mobile apps for speed, responsiveness, and stability.
Monitoring and Diagnostics
- Familiarity with tools like Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, or similar platforms.
- Experience setting up and interpreting performance and stability metrics.
Soft Skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- A collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Knowledge of mobile security best practices and encryption techniques.
- Familiarity with automated mobile testing frameworks (e.g., Espresso, XCTest, Appium).
- Experience with cross-platform monitoring tools like AppDynamics or New Relic.
