The Role: It's an exciting time for us - Market Data collect, store and distribute financial data from over 250 exchanges globally in real time and we are at the very beginning of our journey to moving functions and services that facilitate this to cloud.
While our environment is changing, you'll be helping to monitor the application stack and infrastructure, collaborating with other Morningstar teams and 3rd party vendors to investigate and address issues. You'll be making sure our monitoring coverage and visibility to issues does not diminish, and will also be instrumental in deploying new software, representing the team in infrastructure projects, including cloud migration initiatives. Through this you'll have the opportunity to directly influence and contribute to the design and implementation of new tooling and automation of team processes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join and grow with us as we incorporate new technologies in to our application layer and deliver architecture transformations.
This is a Fix-Term contract of 2 years. Hours of Work: You'll be required to work 40hrs a week. After an initial training period, you will graduate to join a shift rotation that can include late finishes and weekend work at points. You may also find shifts coincide with Public/Bank Holidays.
Responsibilities:

  • Work with the London and Mumbai squads to provide excellent and seamless 1st and 2nd line support of detected issues, taking corrective action or escalating further as appropriate.
  • Actively identify gaps in Ops monitoring and tooling, and work with the appropriate team to implement effective solutions.
  • Respond to both internal and external requests effectively and efficiently, ensuring they are resolved within a timely manner.
  • Deploy, configure and test new software/updates to the Market Data application stack on behalf of Development teams.
  • Create and/or update documentation as needed, to maintain Ops knowledge base.
  • Undertake such training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role

Requirements:
With the nature of the role, we've found that candidates who offer logical thinking with solid troubleshooting capabilities, with a desire to identify and address underlying issues make a strong start. In addition to this, we look for the following

  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • 2+ years' experience in a Technical Operations / SRE role
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server flavours and Wintel hardware
  • Knowledge of network stacks, protocols and technologies.
  • Demonstrative competency in scripting with Powershell and/or Python
  • Experience with Enterprise and open source monitoring tools such as Splunk or New Relic
  • Experience of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, demanding IT environment with a strong focus on business outcomes.
  • Comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders.
  • Any experience in the financial services industry is also a plus.

Morningstar's hybrid work environment gives you the opportunity to work remotely and collaborate in-person each week. We've found that we're at our best when we're purposely together on a regular basis, at least three days each week. A range of other benefits are also available to enhance flexibility as needs change. No matter where you are, you'll have tools and resources to engage meaningfully with your global colleagues.
