Installs, configures, upgrades, and supports the core systems used at the Bank (e.g. SilverLake, Optis), as well as the IBM Power System and related hardware. This position also configures and supports associated core and IBM-related monitoring, utility, and management systems.
This position is responsible for ensuring all deployed core systems are:
• Proactively managed for performance and system health,
• Aligned to the Bank’s lifecycle standards and policies, and
• Installed in accordance with Bank policy and licensing agreements.
This role also works under management’s direction on new projects and initiatives as requested, including programmatic system maintenance and process automation, using tools such as GoAnywhere, Automate, Jack Henry Enterprise Workflow, and RPG and CL programming. This position also requires a high degree of initiative to identify and address areas of innovation across the Bank, to increase productivity, efficiency, reduce risk, etc. Responsibilities also include problem identification, troubleshooting and resolution.
This position is also responsible for designing, developing and maintaining IBM/core applications and integration points. Persons in this position are among senior IT staff, and as such are expected to take a proactive approach to fulfil their accountabilities.
Accountabilities:
- Helps maintains midrange system availability at the Bank’s Bangor data center and DR site.
- Assigns work, and acts as an escalation point to the Night System Operator.
- Designs, develops, tests, and maintains application software according to Bank policies and procedures.
- Analyze and troubleshoot application problems and escalate to appropriate resources
- Creates and maintains accurate diagrams and documentation of supported systems and applications.
- Installs and configures system and application software according to Bank policies and procedures while adhering to licensing requirements.
- Develops and maintains high levels of knowledge of Bank systems and software, and of the capabilities of those systems and applications.
- As the Bank’s subject matter expert (SME) on the Bank’s core systems and IBM Power System platform and its capabilities, this role provides knowledge transfer, training, and guidance to other members of the Banking Core team
- Assumes the Solutions Architect role within the context of the IT core banking systems and Bank business line projects involving midrange systems, providing technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- As a senior member of the IT team, provides coaching and support to other IT staff.
- Creates and maintains accurate procedures, diagrams, and other documentation of supported systems and applications.
- Assists with the design, testing, and implementation of new hardware and core-related applications.
- Leads and participates in the development of Bank IT procedures and processes, as well as their upkeep.
- Develops and maintains Bank core systems best practices in accordance with business needs and industry recommendations.
- Stays abreast of new developments in the industry, especially relating to core banking systems, applications, and development.
- Keeps a focus on security while conducting all aspects of their role.
- Creates and monitors Core and IBM system and application alerts, responding as needed to resolve outages and issues, including a regular on-call rotation.
- Plays an active role in recovery exercises and annual DR tests.
- Participates in after-hours coverage as dictated by business requirements.
- Maintains strong collaborative relationships across IT and the bank.
- Provides outstanding customer service.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Business Partner Relations:
- Coordinates tasks/activities with the Bank’s business partners as directed.
- Informs stakeholders of relevant activities.
Compliance and Control:
- Assists in ensuring that the Bank complies with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Adheres to applicable Bank policies, processes, and procedures.
- Operates within the change control framework as it pertains to IT operations.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; four-year college degree or equivalent work experience required; business experience and a graduate degree preferred.
- Relevant technical certifications required.
- 5-10 years of related and relevant employment experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytic abilities.
- Expert abilities and experience with the following technologies required: IBM Power Systems; IBM i Operating Systems; MIMIX replication software.
- Experience with CL, RPG, and SQL is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of the following technologies preferred: Automation software (RPA); Halcyon ; GoAnywhere software; Web Services; Storage Area Network
- Experience with Jack Henry Associates’ Silverlake, Vertex, and Passport banking software applications highly desirable.
- Strong documentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Visio.
- Experience working successfully with third parties and vendors.
- The desire and ability to maintain knowledge and skill currency.
- The ability to successfully participate in team endeavors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
