Job Overview:
Working as part of the Media Center at 7 Hudson Square, the Senior MC Specialist will work alongside a team of people that are responsible for the lifecycle of acquisition of live audio/video. This includes the booking, coordinating and executing video feeds via any modality-predominantly IP, and including satellite, and fiber in and out of our facility.
Responsibilities:

  • Provide peer-leadership and guidance of the Media Center Operations
  • Expert understanding of all Media Center workflows
  • Take ownership of impact and risk assessment of Media Center Operations
  • As necessary, participate in team-based projects and contribute recommendations for departmental objectives
  • Book live and recorded transmissions for all ABC News productions by utilizing scheduling systems and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operate computer systems used to execute IP transmissions using TVU Networks, LiveU, Haivision and other related software.
  • Route video as appropriate to monitor feeds, QC, and provide signals to other parts of the business.
  • Monitor and quality control all live-shots for all programming at ABC News.
  • Coordinate with newsgathering, control rooms, show operations, and live streaming operations to take in orders and provide feed information for daily operations and special events.
  • Acting shift leader in absence of NAC Manager
  • Assigns live shots during breaking news
  • If someone calls out sick, check on freelance pool/staff to see if anyone can fill in
  • Train and assess skill level of new hires into Media Center roles


Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in the broadcast media industry.
  • Experience working in a large organization and solving cross-department problems.
  • Must be team oriented and motivated by creating efficient solutions that drive end-user value.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and proactively with production teams having diverse work cultures.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and solutions driven.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building and managing IP video transmission, encoding/decoding, media management and distribution systems. Prior experience with products from Avid, Adobe, Dalet, IRM, TVU Networks, LiveU, Haivision, Evertz Magnum and Aspera.
  • Software Development experience of any kind, especially as it relates to API integrations
  • Video engineering experience; specifically related to video codecs, editing infrastructure, IP video transcoding and processing.


Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.


The hiring range for this position in New York City, NY is $91,100.00 to $122,200.00 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
