Ameresco is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design of reciprocating engine power plants in Hawaii powered by biodiesel. This position can be based remotely or in a hybrid arrangement at our Phoenix, AZ office, with travel required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide discipline-specific system design: layout (utilizing CAD/BIM); calculations (utilizing appropriate software, e.g. ThermoFlex, DesignBuilder); and other related design services including coordination with other disciplines (architectural and engineering / internal and external) under the guidance of the Director of Central Utility Systems.

  • Manage customer relationships and expectations throughout the project lifecycle, working in close contact with and effectively interacting with the internal design team as well as external clients and consultants (including owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.).

  • Create mechanical designs for power plants, including piping (chilled water, hot water, steam, compressed air, natural gas, fuel oil), building level HVAC, gas-fired turbines, steam turbines, water tube boilers, fire tube boilers, heat recovery steam generators, and develop project specifications, basis of design documents, system narratives, and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes.

  • Establish systems application, design, and operational parameters/sequences of operation.

  • Participate in QA/QC processes for your work and the work of peers and consultants.

  • Assist the Engineering Director in the ongoing determination of project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and project budgets.

  • Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects, including conducting assessments of existing conditions, field inspections, and subsequent detailed inspection reports.

  • Process RFIs, submittals, and design revisions.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the MEP field including experience designing power plants.

  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

  • Current Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).

Additional Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD MEP and REVIT.

  • Proficient in design and calculation software (ThermoFlex, DesignBuilder, CAESAR II); MS Office.

  • Thorough understanding of applicable codes.

  • Ability to travel as required.

  • Experience working in an Engineering and/or Architectural/Engineering consulting firm strongly desired.

  • Leadership, initiative, and problem-solving skills for large-scale projects required.

  • Experience working on Federal projects is a plus.
