Senior Manager, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems & AI/ML
Location: San Francisco - CA or Bellevue - WA

The Team
Einstein Foundations ML brings revolutionary generative AI technology to Salesforce CRM business at scale. The team is looking for a Senior Manager to lead an exceptional engineering team specializing in distributed and large-scale data engineering with a strong emphasis on building and enhancing scalable, reliable systems. A background in Machine Learning is preferred, as you will help integrate AI and ML capabilities into our systems.
You will demonstrate your experience in distributed systems and data engineering to design, build, and scale complex services while maintaining our stringent data privacy, security, residency, and compliance goals. Our teams work in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment, valuing transparent communication, constructive feedback, and a sense of fun in our work. This role will play a pivotal part in integrating innovative Large Language Models (LLMs)
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Salesforce AI Cloud leaders to co-create and refine the AI and data engineering strategy and roadmap, with a focus on LLMs, Knowledge Graphs, and intelligent search solutions.
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of highly scalable, reliable, and available distributed systems and data retrieval pipelines to power advanced AI/ML models and semantic search capabilities.
  • Spearhead the integration of Knowledge Graphs retrieval into our AI ecosystem to enable richer, more contextualized data interactions and enhanced decision-making.
  • Partner with multi-functional teams to develop groundbreaking search and retrieval capabilities that leverage LLMs for intelligent question answering, document summarization, and context-aware insights.
  • Prioritize retaining and attracting top talent, continuously invest in the development of high-performing teams, and passionately champion the success of both the team and its individual members.
  • Develop a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team, ensuring diverse voices' chip in to the development of innovative AI systems.
  • Proactively seek out and implement improvements in team processes and culture, giving to the overall evolution of the wider engineering organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • A related technical degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 8+ years of experience building, scaling, and maintaining large-scale distributed systems or sophisticated data engineering pipelines in the B2B (or B2C) SaaS industry. This experience should include solutions that operate 24/7, ensuring reliability and performance at scale.
  • 3+ years of people management experience, leading teams focused on distributed systems, data engineering, or AI/ML initiatives.
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous integration, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Great foundation in distributed systems, data architecture, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Proficiency in Java and/or Python for developing scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms for building, deploying, and leading distributed systems and services.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies is a must, and Scrum Master experience is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and project management abilities, and the capacity to work efficiently in a distributed team setting.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $184,000 to $253,000.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $200,800 to $276,100.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
