How You Will Contribute:

We’re looking for highly motivated and talented individual to lead supply chain management on the assigned product lines.  You will work with staff members, customer operations, procurement, and suppliers to develop supply plans that meet Ciena’s standards for customer on time delivery and lead times, within cost & inventory budgets.  You will also interact with PLM, R&D leaders, staff and suppliers to manage product lifecycles including NPI production ramps, product/component EOL and change management.  Scope of responsibility will include coordination of supply plans for all EMS sites globally

The Must Haves:

  • Set standards, goals and training plans for all staff members, and evaluate performance.
  • Develops and tracks metrics related to supplier performance, Ciena customer deliveries and inventory.
  • Develop 18 month rolling vendor drive based on demand planning forecast.  Ensures vendor drive is delivered and reviewed with supply partners to drive the required supply chain activities.  Make required adjustments within acceptable Ciena parameters to optimize plan and meet supplier agreements.
  • Work with suppliers, staff, operations engineering and customer operations to develop build plans based on forecast quantities, and available supplier run rates/capacity to achieve both lead time and on time delivery requirements.  Ensures supply commit signals are visible in Ciena systems.
  • Leads component shortage reviews and expedites to achieve clear to build requirements in support of product build plans, including identifying alternates as needed.
  • Ensures effective communication with customer operations on delivery commitments, and schedule changes.   Supports expedite requests.   Provides supply updates in weekly meetings or as required.
  • Ensures that purchase orders are issued to supply chain as required to meet customer deliveries and cover required expenses. Maintains open order status in close coordination with the supply chain to optimize inventory and customer deliveries.
  • Builds and maintains long-term strategic relationships with key suppliers.  Works with staff and/or suppliers to identify and mitigate gating materials or processes to meet customer deliveries.
  • Determines customer product allocation as required due to material or capacity constraints with guidance from customer operations.
  • Develops alternative configurations and customer solutions to meet customer request dates and reduce inventory investment.
  • Performs “what if” and/or risk buy analyses for potential sales opportunities to establish projected shipment dates, and purchase commitments.
  • Supports and tracks inventory disposition and strategies at finished goods and component levels with inventory management, procurement and suppliers to meet inventory budgets and optimize our inventory levels.
  • Prepares various analyses and report requests for senior management and present in meetings as required.
  • Leads cross functional efforts to ensure that technical issues are resolved quickly avoiding delays in production and deliveries.   Leads meetings with operations and design engineering teams as required.
  • Works with staff, suppliers, and corporate procurement team to support quarterly cost reductions objectives.
  • Ensures proper transition of new products into Ciena supply chain and scheduling activities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work will employees at all levels throughout the organization
  • Effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Thorough understanding of ERP system applications (Oracle), supply chain management tools (Kinaxis), and associated processes.
  • Fluency in project management and planning, risk assessment and resolution
  • Demonstrated skills in PC applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • B.S. / B.A. or equivalent
  • Six to eight years of related experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
