This position is responsible for overseeing operational processes to identify, measure, mitigate, and report risks associated with the Enterprise Services business unit. The role involves integrating specialist risk advice to support the business unit in achieving its objectives within a robust risk culture. Collaboration with the BU General Manager and departmental leaders is essential to provide insights that facilitate effective decision-making.

This role will promote a culture of risk awareness, integrating risk considerations into Enterprise Services business decisions and outcomes. It will ensure that business operations and risk management practices align with frameworks, policies, risk strategy, regulatory obligations, and the organisation's risk appetite. Additionally, it will provide advice for improving the risk and control environment. This includes supporting key areas with regulatory reporting requirements for operational risk incidents to comply with the Mandatory Breach Reporting regime.

Be accountable for developing and embedding line 1 Business Continuity and Crisis Management procedures and ensuring effective preparedness plans are maintained and up to date for Enterprise Services. This includes identifying critical processes and impacts for maximum outages, executing on training to key stakeholders and undertaking analysis of any event where BC plans have been evoked for improvement opportunities.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Facilitate the implementation of risk management controls and processes to ensure that relevant business risks are identified, assessed, monitored and managed appropriately to ensure the organisation's objectives and goals are achieved.
  • Support the execution of control testing for design and operational effectiveness
  • Lead the identification, mitigation and escalation of risks across Enterprise Services by providing regular risk reports and updates on business to senior management.
  • Support Enterprise Services with respect to incident and issue management along with working closely with compliance and regulatory teams.
  • Prevent reoccurrence of Operational Risk Incidents, by identifying drivers and root causes, as well as implementing supporting plans to address.
  • Implement and monitor effective Key Risk Indicators (KRI) to detect risk performance and develop action plans to remedy.
  • Lead the mapping and documentation of existing controls and execute on control and risk executive attestation processes.  
  • Maintain compliance obligation registers for effective management of regulatory risk across Line 1 business processes and controls.
  • Prepare, embed and maintain effective Business Continuity and Crisis management plans for Enterprise Services in line with industry standards and existing frameworks.
  • Assist with the management and coordination of Crisis Management and Continuity in events when they occur
  • Serve as a trusted partner to the senior management team and relevant stakeholders to embed risk management monitoring & controls and build strong relationships to productively drive risk culture and outcomes.
  • Identify systemic issues via undertaking thematic reviews and implement controls to remediate and prevent reoccurrence  
  • Act as a key coach and advisor to Leaders in the business to which they are aligned on effective application of Operational Risk (& Compliance) principles to develop approaches to manage identified risk exposures.

About you:

  • Minimum 8 years of risk management experience with a clear understanding of risk and control assurance and compliance principles will support your experience in a banking or financial services environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience and relevant qualifications in Business Continuity for financial services 
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing business continuity plans.
  • Experience in crisis management and incident response, including leading or participating in crisis situations.
  • Strong knowledge or risk management methodologies and industry standards.
  • Relevant Technology Risk Management/IT Audit experience within the Australian financial services industry, or an external audit/ consulting firm.
  • Experience in partnering with senior business leaders to drive risk culture and ensure key obligations and risk management frameworks are adhered to at an industry standard
  • Experience in developing and leading a high performing risk team.(3)
  • Strong communication skills combined with the ability to influence and articulate complex risk scenarios.
